It's the same for the V6 4Runners/Prados, the Prado/UZJ120 Land Cruiser also share diesel drive trains in foreign markets. I believe the GX only comes in full-time 4WD ... so technically it doesn't share the same drive train as the V8 4Runner/Tacoma, but pretty close.

I'm pretty sure the GX shares the same engine as the current full size Landcruiser/Lexus. That's what the salesman said...

When I was travelling in Central America (prior to the GX470 release)....I saw Prados everywhere....I was so jealous.

Ive got a GX , LX and LC100 in the drive - all around the GX is my pick. The GX and LX both have the VVTI 2UZ-FE, (270 hp '05 on GX and 275 hp '06 100s IIRC) - my 99 100 has the 235 hp and 90k - I barely notice a difference

GOOD question. Do the older Prados share the same platform as the 2nd Gen Runner/Surf/HiLux?

The "older" prados (90 Series) share the platfrom with the 3rd gen Runner. No torsion bars like the 2nd gen, instead it has coils up front.

FWIW, the Prado is badged LandCruiser down under.

I dont think there's a Prado anywhere that is not badged as a Land Cruiser. In UK they're called Land Cruiser Colorado. Mine is badged Land Cruiser Prado on the back door handle.

It's a Landcruiser to me too. :) Good for mild off-road use out of the box, probably needs some work for any heavy abuse. Damn stiff rear suspension!

Prado

The 90 series Prado shares platform with the 96-02 4runner, the 120 is shared with the 03+. The 7X series prado aka LCII, is 70 series specific (Light duty 70)

Exactly, a light duty 70... BUT they do share the 4runner engines (gas 22R and diesel 2L-T) and 8in axles front (solid) and rear (like Hilux-4runner axles) other than that it has a lot more in common with a LC than with a mini truck. (not sure if they come from Araco, anyone know?) (maybe the bodies are from Araco)

Sorry....a GX/4R and FJC are not Land Cruisers. That's what the 100 and 200 are. Because in a few countries they label the Series a "Land Cruiser" (for marketing purposes in that country) doesn't make it one.

Just because they are not the biggest LC does not mean they are not a Landcruiser. The 200, the 100, and my favorite, the 80-series LCs, are all Landcruisers. The 120 is no less a Landcruiser, though it may be a bit more civilized. A bit of effort and it can go anywhere a modded 100 can go. They each meet slightly different requirements. In some foreign markets, a 200 is simply American overkill, where a moderate design can be more useful. The FJC is closer to the original FJ than any 100-series ever will be.

It's your right to keep telling yourself this. A-OK with me.

Interesting...they point out that it is a "light-duty" model in the lineup. ;)

"Toyota Land Cruiser Prado is a model designation used in Japan, Australia, South Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia and Latin America as well as other parts of the world for light-duty, mid-sized four-wheel drive cars in the Toyota Land Cruiser line. They are produced by the Japanese car maker Toyota Motor Corporation. The car is marketed in many other parts of the developing world, such as the Caribbean and large parts of Africa."

Maybe this link isn't so good after all? :D
