Like many other 80s my window belt mounting has seen better days. The driver side one I finally had to pull off because it kept cutting me. Can I remove this stuff all the way around the truck and be ok or do it serve a purpose other than “tidy lines” or looking good?

If I'm thinking of the rubber bit you're speaking of, I cut all mine off before I realized it actually holds the window wiper part that sits just inside the door. That part then fell to the bottom, inside the door.

I would prefer to replace them but I can't seem to find the part numbers.

Other than the function of the exterior window wiper is it necessary? I guess it would limit the amount of water going into the skin side of the door but if the drains aren’t clogged this shouldnt be an issue right? Maybe to prevent larger debris from getting in and clogging those holes?

No, I haven't found any huge disadvantages with it missing...and my forearm is thankful those pointy edges are gone.

Ummm.....

This belt moulding keeps out the debris such as leaves and pine needles that will eventually clog the drain slits in the bottom.

Also, your door speaker is exposed to the interior of the door. The water intrusion can destroy your factory and some aftermarket speakers.

Your window regulator is in there and needs lubrication. Water continuously dripping on the regulator will cause rust, even in those regions that rust doesn't exits...... The area inside the door won;t allow the water to evaporate.

Also, your door cards are made of pressed wood and are supposed to have plastic to HELP protect it from the door interior, but it may have been ripped by a PO or a shop prior to you.

Are the belt mouldings NECESSARY? No, not to run a POS on a trail, but you really don;t need doors for that either.

I personally like mine to keep out debris, water, wind noise, and to keep my doors clean and rust-free.

If you can even remotely use a computer, you can find the door window seals (inner and outer) for each door and rear sliding windows. They are completely available and you CAN find them with a search here, but I'm not gonna bag on you about that.

I think theyre important to keeping crap out. And without it looks stupid.

There's your part numbers. I recently did the ones on my 2 front doors after a couple years of my driver's one being ragged and the rest not too far behind. For the price I say it's worth it to keep water and crap out of my doors. I plan to do the rear ones next time I have to order parts.

Don't forget about the inner ones as well!

There are two per door.

The belts under the rear sliders mount using clips that go through holes in the body with little sealing pads around the clips that would need to be sealed or filled in to prevent leaks if removed. If you have a leak around the sliding window area it's a place to check as well.

I've gotta replace these on both doors on the drivers side. Passengers side probably not too long after as well. Do you have to take off the door panel to replace these or is it a pretty quick replacement/fix installing them?

1 inner per door, 4 total.

Thanks for the clarification.

My intent was one outer, one inner per door.

These are the part numbers I ordered for my 1996 LC (08/1995):
75710-60021 (Qty 1)
75720-60021 (Qty 1)
75730-60020 (Qty 1)
75740-60020 (Qty 1)
68170-60030 (Qty 2)
68190-60011 (Qty 2)

Of course, I also did my window run channels at the same time:
68141-60010, Right (Qty 1)
68151-60010, Left (Qty 1)
68142-60011, Right (Qty 1)
68152-60011, Left (Qty 1)

Took me about 15 mins a side. You don't have to take the door panel off but you do have to take the mirror loose. Be careful not to break the little triangle cover. With the window down pry the triangle off, unbolt the mirror (you don't have to unplug it, just lay it aside as best you can), take the screw out of the other end of the trim, then pull the old trim up from the end. Don't worry about breaking the clips as the new piece comes with them, jut make sure all the old clips are out of the mounting points. Then just snap the new piece in and put your mirror and screw back on.

The main purpose of them would seem to keep out larger debris, but like every other 4wd mud/dirt/water makes it past those wipers all the time, the door is designed with this in mind. I really doubt the absence of the wiper would lead to catastrophic failure at a speed faster than the original design. The vapor barrier (plastic) is probably the most important component & certainly in place and I don’t know anyone who purposely removes them. The area in the door would allow evaporation on the skin side.

I won’t disagree and say they don’t serve an important purpose and I’ll buy another set new to prevent debris from getting inside - but its not exactly a POS truck without them and I can’t say they prevent water damage listed above.

On a side note: the part numbers were really helpful and I’ll get them ordered up when I get a chance.

Mine's a 96 as well. This all comes to $661 at Norwalk. Anyone find a significantly better deal? Thanks
