I am wondering if anyone knows someone at Discount Tire who can give my an honest opinion on the condition of the tires on my 60 and maybe call BFG with their evaluation. I tried mid last year at the Discount on Slaughter/Manchaca but only got a new tire/wider wheel sales pitch, with a supposed discounted price, still over $1400 for the 5 tires.
I had 2 blowouts last year on my BFG KO2's on my 60. One in April (tire had ~1K miles) and one last week (Tires have about~5K miles). I bought the tires 6 years ago while I was fixing my 60 which took longer to bring back to life than expected & these had sat off the truck and laying flat in my garage, I put the tires on last February prior to Roundup, Back in April after the first blowout, I called BFG and they suggested that I take the truck to Discount since they are the "eyes on the ground for us"... I went back to Discount Tire and the sales guy wanted to sell me new tires and give a discount on a new set of wheels since warranty was voided cause I was using the narrow FJ40 steelies and they did not mount the tires. After last week's blowout, I emailed BFG asking for an explanation as to why would a 2nd tire would blowout at such low miles? Their response: "We are sorry to hear you are having a sidewall cracking issue with your tires. Sidewall cracking is commonly related to ozone interaction with rubber" aka weather cracks. I sent pictures of the blown tires & sidewalls along with pictures of a good tire and they have no sidewall cracks that I can see. Thirty minutes after I sent pictures, I get a response... here is part of it "There are certain cases where we are able to provide Goodwill toward our consumers however all Warranty Claims are contingent on your Authorized Dealers verbal inspection report."
Again, I just want an honest opinion and if I have to take a loss and buy new tires, so be it.
Thanks,
Luis
