There's been dozens of threads in this forum over the last 15-20 years about leaking replacement windshields (80 Series Land Cruisers), all due to either the installer using no adhesive-sealant, or not applying it correctly. Also been discussed that the correct type of Adhesive-Sealant is required in order to keep the windshield attached to the vehicle in the case of an accident including a roll-over ie: how it moves in a crash (ie not flying out) is considered in crash testing.
Happened to me twice in an 80 Series (leaking after installation); first time the installer used no sealant, leaked like a sieve. Second time they sent out two installers, they used sealant but didn't use it correctly, leaked again. Third time I took it to an independent 1-2 man shop (no front office, you dealt directly with the guy who was doing the work). I chose him because the local dealers (Toyota, Lexus, Mercedes) used his shop for new and higher end vehicles on the lot that needed a windshield replaced, perfect.
The National chain that screwed it up twice paid for the new OEM windshield (when they were still available), total charge; $1100 paid by them. The National chain also reimbursed me (a bunch) for damage to the vehicle (which I fixed). As mentioned above, the rust came back after a dozen years or so.
FWIW there's been Class-Action lawsuits for improperly installed windshields including IIRC a large government fine for a National chain ?? decades ago that was not installing windshields using the factory approved method.
