Hello fellow Mudders,

I have been working on a quarter panel mount now for my 80 for the last little while. At first I was very frustrated with never getting on a list with wits end, but now I realise I probably saved myself a bunch of trouble, money and head aches not dealing with him. So in my frustration, I figured "I am a welder and fabricator after all! Why don't I build one myself!" I didn't want to halt my stereo build any further and wanted everything hidden under the factory trim as planned previously.

My first prototype I built out of aluminium and had to weld it together, but now after multiple test runs I believe to have my final product. Although similar looking to wits end model, I can assure you it is different. There are only so many shapes and angles that can fill up that hole nicely and have the trim cover.

This is my first ever business venture, as I still work full time and will be doing this after work and on weekends. I am also still figuring out all the logistics associated with building a product like this and also figuring out the shipping from Canada part. So please be patient with me!

The DIY QPM is made out of 16 gauge steel that is precision laser cut.
It will be sand blasted and powder coated textured black
All hardware needed to install the DIY QPM will be provided, including the red interior clips, because everyone knows they are broken, brittle or about to be.
HOWEVER this QPM will NOT include any wood. I am a welder after all, not a carpenter this "would" now make it the DIY part of the project.

This is my first prototype which I attached my amps to, with room to spare for future goodies

Here is the Panel in its final form, better pictures to come soon!

I am throwing this post up to see how many of you guys are interested! I look forward to hearing back from hopefully a bunch of you, then maybe I can help your dream 80 build come true!

I am interested. So it's basically just the mounting plate. I have an HDJ81 with a removeable door on that panel (for the JDM winch controller and/or medical kit). I could see having on-board air and a power inverter in there, accessible via the removeable door.

Where in Alberta are you located? PM me.

Looks great!

Just a FYI, DeltaVS is now selling their version of the QPM. Panel only will be $395. Corrected by DeltaVS...$335 for Panel Only.

Looks great! Nice work.

I knocked one of these up for a buddy last year. Grabbed a sheet of 20AWG from Metal Supermarkets (might have been 22). Used my welding table to make the bends. Added some ply wood and it both looks and works very good. Probably cost $30 all in.
I get it that some of these are almost considered works of art and I bought one of the originals from Joey Da Vinci but when you fit the plastic cover mine looks as good as anyones.

@Alberta4x4 are you on our 80 Series in Canada Facebook group?

I've been looking for a QPM and it would be a major bonus if it was from a Canadian vendor. :)

Cheers!

This might not be helpful but @Delta VS is located in Idaho, and they sell a 1/4 panel mount. Road trip!!!

Very nice work! I'm still running my old school bent aluminum 1/8" bar stock and plywood creation. It's held up great for about 10 years now. I want to update it to the slick new steel setup like you've created but I built it too well it turns out, no sense in swapping at this point.

As a guy that does a lot of wiring for a living, nice job there 🍺

Thank you, it was much cleaner but I had to replace the amp, added the MPPT solar charger, moved the Puma to the other side of the truck, added the Victronic battery monitor, etc. and didn't want to take the fridge, Waterbrick mount and subwoofer out so it's a bit messier than I like. Maybe I'll get it tidied up this winter.
