I could not find any good information yesterday as I was starting my first DIY oil change. After reading a post where a IH8MUD member drained his ATF I started second guessing myself. Can someone tell me what "Oil Pan #1 & Oil Pan #2 are?" After three trips under the LC finally found the right drain plug. My LC did not have "Engine Under Cover No.3 ?" The covers bolts (Service Hole Cover) are a 14mm and the drain plug is a 12mm. My 2006 LC took 7qts Mobil 1 5W-30 and I used Mobil One filter M1-102
Don't forget a new drain plug washer 12mm

Well, clearly Oil Pan #1 is the one labeled "No. 1 Oil Pan" and # 2 is "No. 2" in the diagram.
Not trying to be a smartass, just not sure what your question is.
You definitely don't have to pull the oil pan apart to change your engine oil.

I just did mine the other day with the same oil but the Mobil1 M1-209 filter...the larger filter does take a bit more oil...I used just over 7 quarts to fill her up. I'm also missing the skid plate covering the engine oil drain plug, but the one over the filter is still there...anyone got an extra skid plate for the drain plug? I'll pay shipping...

Clearly ! How many cars have 2 oil pans? I've changed oil a few times and never remember having to decide which pan should I drain? So I guess if I'm asking its about as clear as MUD "SmartAss"

It should be a little clearer than MUD that the only engine oil pan with a drain plug is No. 2.

Yep. That was going to be my next reply. Only one drain plug.

Speaking of oil changes on the Hundy and having recently done my first ever Hundy oil change since selling my 80:
I love the little metal lip below the oil filter that directs those last few drips out over your drain bucket. So thoughtful uncle T. Thank you.

Yes, I see where your coming from... Yesterday I didn't have this diagram. When I thought I would write this up to maybe be of some help. I found it today. When I was lying under the LC last night was a different story. Directly in front of the actual drain plug in another inset bolt 12 mm that looked to be more where I was looking for the drain plug. I looked also at the ATF drain and knew for sure that was the transmission. I also didn't see anything that said the drain or filter were under a covers. This is a tough crowd! My thoughts were if I had the questions maybe some else might also.

We're not so tuff as we sound here. You just caught me at a smartass moment.
Definitely don't want unscrew something you're not sure is the right bolt.
It's easier to see what's going on if all the skidplates are off. Definitely not required for the oil change either, but pull them off sometime just to orient yourself to all the important bits and pieces.

Thanks, I was thinking the same thing! Cheers

x2. Our Sienna had this as well. When I changed the oil in that I remember thinking what a great idea.

If you are not sure which plug is for the oil, follow the oil dip stick down. It will go all the way to where the oil sump is.
The transmission dip stick (if you have it) will go to the transmission sump with another plug.
I was the same the first time when I crawled under the car. Which one is for the oil? I followed the dip stick and saw the plug.

The confusion is because there are actually two oil pans. An upper pan and a lower pan, the lower pan is black sheet metal and has the drain plug in it.
Im not sure why some manufacturers do this but I know bmw does too.

nice,
just a quick question , where did u get this DIY diagram?

@NUKEM Thanks for the images and write up. Helped with my first oil change! I thought it was going to be a little more involved but it was an easier job than many other oil changes I've done. Main shock is the 7.2 quart capacity. I did little video for anyone who might want to see an oil change first hand.
