There are some things best left to the pros... but there are some things that are within range of DIY/weekend mech's. But like some in this area, I don't have a garage so working in the cold/wet can make it tough.

"what if there was a place i could take my car to and work on it in their facility"

well, a bud introduced me to this place: north of Dulles:

Northern Virginia Automobile Repair Shop | Fairfax DIY Auto Repair | Loudoun Do It Yourself Repair Center

any one use them? I have some questions into them and will post their replies (lift questions and if a full day rental can be shared by > 1 person, ie: a tag-team diy repair day).

Their value-adds are nice:

shop looks clean (and warm and dry!)

I have been there. I helped a buddy do a lift on his 80 series. It worked out well. Nice clean shop and all the tools we needed.

I have been there twice. Once with slow91fj90 doing my lift and another time to do some fluids. I like the place. No extra charge on trash disposal either. I threw my old springs and shocks in a pile outside the shop.

Exactly the same concept as the military base auto-hobby shops for those that carry Mil-IDs. Always wondered why civilians never picked up on the idea.

Liability! Theft!
I used the base hobby shop all the time.
Good to see it catching on in the civilian world.

I recently found this place in Chantilly their rates were not bad. I had additions done to my 89 Toyota pickup They let you rent the lift and air compressor/electric etc.
