I know its the lazy way to do this as it's a constant hot feed...But I only use the dector on the highway so I'm manually turning it on and off any way. It's about a ten min, install this way and even I can do it.This is for an 03 LC with overhead consul First remove the screw that is up inside the sunglass compartment.

then just unclip unit buy gently pulling down (4 clips)

I tapped the positive wire going to the auto dim mirror with the supplied quick splicer clamp (red wire) then attached the neg (black) to a ground.

Attach the dirct wire power adapter (telephone jack looking thing) to an out of the way place and plug in powwer cord.

Fish wire through where the auto dim wire is.

Find a good place for the unit and hook up wire....tuck every thing back into place, reclip consul and screw back in.

This was so simple that a dork like me can do it in ten min......If I go get some longer wire and pull of the a pillar and dash I could tap into another spot ... but untill I need to wire a more complicated project this will do fine.Valentine puts together a great kit.....Just for laughs I called Best Buy and they want $89.00 to wire it!!!!

^^^^ Sorry this post looks so screwed up. I tryied to re-edit to make it flow better but nothing I do helps

fender, if you dont mind im giong to use one of your pictures for a thread i just thought of. Thanks. :)

I have my dectector hardwired but i just leave it stuck to my window all the time. Not so much highway fuzz thats out there, its the locals. Highway i know where they hide, locals are too sneeky to keep track of.

two questions. why valentine over escort or bell and does it make that psychotic sound when you get hit with a laser. I bought an Escort Blue and after two hours on 55 from st.louis to chicago, I had a damn anxiety attack. It went off every time I went under an over pass. It drove me nuts.

Nice job! I will do the same.

I like V1 because it picks up from the rear as well as the front. This has saved me a few times.

They are a great co. My front radar went out last year after it was 3 years old. I called them and sent it back. Fixed for free!

The outside shell has not changed for years so if you have an old one they will upgrade it to new specs for much less than buying a new one!

Cool

1LoudLX ....It would be my pleasure!..JustImagineJack... The Val one has been rated one of the best detectors on the market....All the tuners in their 500HP donnarmobiles use the Val one...I had one in my vette but it got stolen...Finaly got around to getting another one.It has several "Logic" modes that allows the computer to screen out what it thiks to be Junk signals..you choose, full on or one of 4 programs....Plus the mute has a volume control so the mute can be at any level you chose.Front and rear searching...and the tech support is great. If there is an update they will retro fit your unit for a small fee..no need to purchase all new techI love it!!!

fender, to fix the stolen valentine problem...get it put INSIDE the mirror! The shop that did my rear camera and speakers and subwoofer does custom V1 installs inside the mirror. He just sand blasts off a template off the backing on the mirror to expose it, and mounts the LEDs to it. Its a sick install, ive personally watched him go through all the steps to do it. Here is a close up picture of it mounted in a new Porsche 911(997) Turbo mirror.

V1 is great for highway, I just got too many false reads in-city. Generally, I've always heard Escort for city driving, V1 for freeway.

Loud,
what did you use for the camera and how much did it cost?
What was the price for the mirror install?

i think its close to a grand for the mirror...i dont have it myself, i wish i did get it tho 2 years ago. Would have been nice now...but i dont see how much longer im keeping the LX now. For the camera he just drilled a hole on the left side of the licence plate and mounted a camera. It doesnt point down to the bumper like the OEM, more just straight back. I use it as a rear view mirror when my rear cargo area is full with things and i cant see out the back window.

What wire can I tap into up here that would not be a constant hot feed? You used the rear view auto dim line, would the sunroof line allow the Valentine to cycle only with ignition turned on?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

I'm completely blown away that some of you can get the 100 to speed enough to warrant a detector.

Sidebar discussion: LIDAR is the weapon of choice around here and for that, it's not a detector its a ticket pre-indicator. For that an emitter ("jammer")/ detector is the only effective weapon. Although with the size of our headlights and width of the vehicle I'm not sure how effective the emitters would be. True, some counties and staters do cruise rural routes with in-motion devices, but its rare in the city. Here's it's all about bikes and LIDAR.
