I have a 3FE 1991 LC.
If I'm replacing the distributor cap/rotor/o-ring do I need to make sure the engine is at TDC? Or can I just install everything exactly how I removed it?

I read some of the distributor threads already. I can't get my LC to start now. It just cranks.

Also, I live on McChord Air Force Base Washington. If anyone knows of a cruiser mechanic nearby I would greatly apprciate it.

This what i did on my 97. Engine is different but should be similar.

Make sure the engine is TDC before you remove the distributor.

Mark the positon of the distributor body to engine with a permanent marker so that you when you re-install the distributor, just line up the marks and ur timing will be the same.

I think your timing might be off so u have a no start issue.

It's covered in here.

Might want to do the O-ring on the Dizzy Shaft unless you know it's already been changed.
Oil below the distributor is a dead give away.

What o-ring are we talking about the distributor shaft one or the one on the cap itself? Big difference

Original post sounds like a simple cap and rotor replacement - no need to have engine at TDC. If it ran before the replacement and now it doesn't, pull it apart and examine it. It only goes together one way, unless you mixed up the wires. Make sure the wires are seated all the way in the cap.

This. I Only removed the distributor cap and not the distributor assembly. However... there is a red light beeping on my driver side dash... anti theft?

Lights flash and buzzers beep. :deadhorse:

Did you disconnect the battery when changing the cap? Is this a factory or aftermarket security system?

TORFAB up north is your best bet for the mechanic that specializes in LC for the area.
After rebuilding my 1FZ-FE I would say that you should TDC the cylinder to make it sure you have timing in check. Are you talking the oring on the shaft or the cap itself?

He's changing the Cap and the O-ring that seals that cap.
I'm saying he should check for leakage under cap and if so dig deeper and change the shaft O-Ring so no more leak.
