I've been thinking for quite a while about removing or blocking or disconnecting the EGR system on the car as the carbon is starting to build up. Is there anyone who has done this and could provide me with an idiot proof, guide in how to disconnect it?? :)
Cheers

Just replace the gaskets between the valves and the intake air pipe with some 'solid' gaskets cut from thin sheet steel. With a bit more work you can remove the valves altogether and blank off the exhaust manifold and the air pipe with some blanking plates made from thicker material, say 5mm thick but, in either case, leave the wiring connected or it brings up an engine warning light on the dash.

When you've done that, let me know if you find a good way to scrape the carbon out of the inlet ports in the head.
I dealt with the EGR in my work car a few years back and cleaned out the manifold okay, but the head-ports still have gunk in them. The engine is out and ready for cleaning.

I brought my intake manifold to a shop with those huge engine washer / steamer. It is like a huge dish washer, put to parts in a tray, close the door and let it work for half a hour, came back like new.

A nice solution for the manifold. But it's the head that is my problem. I don't want to pull that just to clean it.

Thanks guys for all your inputs... So ideally this is how it should like, but if I put only the plate circled in read it should do the same thing correct?? How think should the plate be??

mine is something like 1/8"

Good idea to block it off the manifold and use the plate for a pyro! that is going on my todo list.

But by removong the pipe you need 2 block off plates.

Those look an awful lot like the blanking plates on the IP. The ones used when deleting the ACSD.

X2 Nice to kill two birds with one stone. Was actually thinking about drilling the manifold for the EGT sensor. Never thought about this.

My 91 Safari has an EGR but the wife's 92 never had one from the factory (confirmed with VIN on the parts FAST). I guess different areas of Japan have different pollution regs, so they build them per region. It'll be interesting to see if there will be a noticeable difference like on the 1HDT.
