I am concidering converting the drum brakes on my 1972 (early) FJ40. Would appreciate some advice on which kits and front only or both front and rear.

I wouldn't buy a "kit" for the front. I would recommend using stk Toyota disc brake parts from a FJ40,60, or mini truck. You use the knuckles to the lockouts. Including the birfs, or swap in complete frt axle. Go to FAQ's and scroll down to frt ends. The 1st couple of threads will be helpful to help id the difference of various parts. You can look in FAQs for rear discs too. Most folks use Monte Carlo calipers, altered gm rotors, and get caliper brackets and a proportioning valve. Poser sells brackets and rotors along with other vendors. Below is a pic of earlier small pattern FJ40 disc brakes.

In my part of the world, disk knuckles like these are few and far between.
I don't like the look or the idea of using kits.
Seems to me that all I'm missing are those two lugs on each knuckle, and the rest would bolt on... anyone considered welding the lugs onto a drum knuckle?
(Awaits ridicule)
