I finally got a front diff hat for my 80. It's incredibly nice. I've been meaning to do it for a long time. I think that if you are going to go on the rocks this is good and inexpensive protection.

I ordered it from Pat. On this thread:

Pretty soon I'll head to Luke's for installation.

I'll be watching...I was thinking about the same thing. Wasn't sure of the install however. Let me knokw how it goes and how much the install is.

After pics please Alvaro! Looks like the helmet on your avatar too. hehehe

I was hoping to get it done this weekend. But Luke is booked up. And then I'm booked up. I should have it done by the end of Feb. And I'll post all the pics.

I looked at Marlin's solution but I liked this one much better. It's beefier.

just don't let Doug see it or it'll end up on his head... :D

I've mentioned it on most every diff guard thread, but couldn't your fab something up that would surround the diff? think of an empty sphere with a hing joing on one end and a bolt set up on the opposite face. It would close around the whole Diff.

Sam :flipoff2:

I wont let it go

^Why would you even want to do that? All it would do is rob ground clearance and be complicated. All you need to beef is the cover. The housing is PLENTY stout.

I got the diff hat install this weekend. That thing is sweet.
Many thanks to Cubedweller for doing the installation.

No asked around. It seems that the oil inside will keep the diff cool. We took the fill plug out and watched the plug hole for smoke. It never came out.
I will change the oil soon. But I think it's OK. I'll let you know

More simple that I thought .. also, if you know what kind of welder use .. ? only mig . ? or is posble with tig 6011 of 7018 .. ?

Alvaro, this is on my short list of affordable and useful mods - it looks great. I want to see a couple of shots of it after it's taken a few hits though :D

I have to disagree, if you're hitting your diffs hard enough to cause damage then you are going too fast. It's rock crawling, not rock drag racing. Also, if you are hitting your diffs then take a different line. You will not win when you fight gravity.

We used ER70S-6 Mig wire.

There are some gaps and unless you love to grind paint and rust you won't get it clean enough to TIG it.

I don't know why you couldn't stick it w/ 7018, but when in doubt on stick I ask my pops, he was an iron worker for a few years and a pipe fitter for the past 30.

Junk, you'd have to agree there are times when you're up on large rock with your tires, so you feel you're taking the right line, and as you start to come off it, you slide a bit sideways and take a sudden drop of say 2-3 feet. It only takes one well placed rock to dent in that thinner ring gear cover to cause you grief. Unlikely event, well sure. But it is cheap insurance for those folks that regularly rock crawl on stuff big enough to get into those situations. 3K lbs dropping off the rock is enough I think to dent it in. And that's all about gravity isn't it?

and where's the abs ring?
