Well, if you ever get a chance you really should check out a 5.7 LC. The LX570 is not exactly the same as it has about 400lbs of extra weight.
What is cool about both the 5.7 and 4.5 is that they are both linked to the same 6 speed and gear ratios.
It really does make a fair comparison.
I sure have! Holy crap, what a power train! It blew me away! I thought my 100 was sweet? Crap...that 5.7L in the 200 blew my doors off!
I sure am glad that Toyota knows what USA new car drivers what in their SUV's!

I'm waiting till I can get my hands on a LHD HDJ105 in Africa. When they were new they were approx. $30k! Much better deal than a UZJ100 in my books. Same for a 200 diesel.
But you haven't driven the 4.5 or any other modern diesel 4wd?
Who in the world needs to drive the 4.5 in order to know it supplies sub-par performance compared to the 5.7? If it was a better engine then Toyota would sell them here (and so would every other SUV auto maker in the US).

It's not as smooth
It stinks...this stops me from test driving and considering the purchase right off
It gets better mileage
Back to the topic...almost no new car buyers in the US want diesel motors. If they did they'd be for sale all over the place.

Following your own stance would suggest a petrol lover who has never driven any modern diesel would be best staying out of a thread about diesel engines. Instead of posting bogus information while pretending it's fact.
Other than the better fuel mileage, all of your "facts" are made up and wrong.
Let's follow your logic.....so one has to drive a 100-series Cruiser to know that it's much faster, smoother, and quieter compared to an 80-series? That's insane with all due respect. There's so much factual information on that topic that it's common knowledge. Do you really think I need do drive a Porsche 911T FIRST before I tell folks it'll blow away an Rx8? What, I can't go by the facts? The reports?

NONE reach the quietness or smoothness of gas. Again, it's factual...not rocket science and that's why US automakers don't offer them. WE DON'T WANT THEM. IF you do that's OK.

So you know you're following a diesel because it stinks, smokes and is noisey?
Which means when you follow a modern diesel (quiet, smoke free, no exhaust smell at all) you don't even realise.

The diesel V8 mill in the LC200 is not an old fashioned diesel motor, so it does NOT stink, smoke or sounds clattery.
BTW, an eagle eyed Aussie spotted a left hand drive LC200 turbo diesel out testing in Australia. Maybe it's for the European market but maybe, just maybe, it could be for stateside too.

Well, the 5.7 is not a super quiet engine it self, compared the 4.7, the 5.7 is now using a timing chain which is slightly louder due to the chain.
Toyota already makes left-hand drive Land Cruiser 200 Diesels. They also make left-hand drive Land Cruisers 200's with the 4.0 V6 engine.
This means nothing. The Land Cruiser Diesel 200 starts about $10,000 aussie dollars more than the exact same equipped 4.7 petrol
Here are a couple of 2002 landcruiser 100's for sale.
The diesel has almost 3x the odometer reading of the petrol (199,000km vs 71,000km) yet it's still got a 10% higher asking price.
