good luck

Looking for any year 100 series with diesel and LHD, in America. Name your price. Willing to travel.

Ranks right up there with a non blurry photo of Sasquatch. :D
Good luck .....

Details. Diesel toys in tx will do the conversion for 25 k.

well...

Good fawking luck!!!!

On a serious not though, if you truly are serious...import one... it's not as bad as you'd expect... just time consuming...plan to wait multiple months to get all the tape cleared. For the price you get one here (gas) & then get it converted here... you could fly over the pond for a nice vacay, find one & send back... with $$ left over to build up... But that scares people for some reason.

Gee...could it be that no 100 series cruiser meets the 25yr rule?
You would need to prove that its the same as a NA 100 series for starters (not too difficult) and it would need NO engine to meet that fully. Even then, I think you would need an RI to bond it and do all that work. (Translates to $$$$$$)
Your only bet for that would be to bring in the 100 w/ no engine, and then ship the engine at a later date. Good luck getting the EPA or toyota to provide paperwork on an engine never offered here. You will still get EPA hassled about the engine when it comes in alone, and then you will still have the title issue unless you can have them type it up as D when it comes in.

Hey, if it was easy, I would have already done it.

10k for a good 2000 model plus 25k for the conversion at diesel toyz. 35k and you will have the first 1hd-fte in the USA. That is my plan, just cant decide between 5 speed manual or automatic. o yeah and the 25k, need to start saving.

an interesting subject that seems to scare most... while others throw around phrases like "whatever money it takes"...

Being in export/import business... and not having a need for a diesel (yet), all I can say (speaking from personal experience) - bring a rig here, yes - registered from abroad, dont need to bring it here for "keeping" - just as a rig for travel.

So, your rig that you bring from abroad cannot be "legally" registered with your local DMV, being that you havent gone through all of the DOT Approval loops...

Thats why it become simple at the point where you go & purchase a salvaged one from an auction.

Swap out all the major parts which carry VIN info in order for the DMV to "re-issue" title in your name for the salvaged rig.

So in turn what you get is an exported rig from Europe, with a factory installed diesel, everything working as it should, legally titled & registered in US.

Costs??? - all depends what & where you buy...
Time??? - shipping from Europe to US about 2-4 weeks (depending whos brokering & loading the rig)
Registration fears ??? - did you steal it? No, so why would anyone "dig" too deep thinking its stolen if its not, or any cop care what really is under your hood???

disclosure - this will work in most states, while some places that are A** about smog tests & other issues will not work, but so as any other CONVERSION will not work and wont permit you to register your rig with DMV, so - think more broadly... learn the local & other state rules & laws that apply to registrations & other processes...

Hope I wasnt too confusing...

p.s. for anyone thinking otherwise, consider this as a fact of my personal experience... if you believe & think otherwise, thats great, I'm happy for ya.

Hey Thanks,
That seems to be a great option as long as one has a valid overseas address.
Might be an excellent way to bypass the frankly strange laws in the US on importing a vehicle.

"A prado is a bit different than a 100 series though"

Quiet you... the add says it's like an LX 470. ;)

Just took a picture of one today. They are all over the place....well in Afghanistan :). I'll try and throw one in a container for you I mean we are on our way out anyway, why leave it for the locals that are taking over the place. Even better is the punks from the UAE. Every one of them seem to have a brand spaking new diesel 200 series completely kitted out. Sad thing is those guys barely know how to pull the trigger on their weapon yet they have the best of everything. To bad they have to rely on us to train them how to use it.
