Original Battery died on me at 110k and 7 years (had 84 month warranty label)...
Based on all the positive reviews I replaced with the diehard platinum P5 group 35 iirc (the one that came up as a match for the lx).

The DH Plat is smaller than the oem so the stock bracket and tray isn't a great fit and for long term I'd like to get a better fit.

What if anything did others do to make it fit right? I want a snug tight fit without pinching the battery (front angle bracket doesn't fit over the corner instead it pinches the battery). I can take a pic if that helps but i figured another DH owner knows what I'm talking about and either ignored or fixed it.

I put the group 35 in and it bolted right down, nice and snug. Terminals come in both directions. Make sure you get one with the pos closer to the engine.

I replaced my OEM battery with a Diehard Platinum Group 35 at 8 years and 115,000 miles a few months ago. I experienced the same poor bracket-to-battery fit you describe (the OEM bracket is too wide for the recommended Diehard Platinum Group 35 battery). I made sure the bracket was centered with even pressure across the top of the battery. I'll post a picture in the morning.

I had forgotten until I read your post that I had wanted to find a better solution (I installed it in the Sears parking lot). I'd love to hear what others have done.

Mine bolts down nice and snug but the tray is too large and the bracket is longer than the battery so either you center the battery b/w the angle brackets or you snug up the battery to one of the angle brackets. I'd like a better bracket or additional bracket just not sure whether that has to be custom or whether aftermarket adjustable brackets are available or whether i can get some pieces from a hardware store to make it fit better.

can i buy an adjustable adapter bracket?

DieHard related but slightly off subject, check out DieHard | Torture Labs "Extreme Headlights" is awesome.

Mine came with a group 35 with the same loose fit thanks to original owner and Lexus of Bellevue, WA:mad:.

I added some short pieces of aluminum angle from HD plus some adhesive-backed neoprene from my local gasket shop...that allowed me to tighten the bracket with room left on the hold-down threads.

good to know on this specific battery's fitment as it's the one I was planning to replace mine with. i've been waiting for my current OEM battery (2002 w/160k) to die (or even show ME signs of dying) - stealership told me mine was weak and I need to replace it ASAP.....well, that was over 10k miles ago and is still cranking strong....guess they just wanted $250+ that day since I prepaid all my service years ago and they don't get any $ outta my wallet when I show up ;p

I think I've seen here that an oem battery is well north of $250. Lexus in Boise does NOT discount parts, so I didn't even ask. I swapped mine in the Sears parking lot, drove home and fixed the bracket in 30 min or so.

It's a great battery and cranks strong even after several days of sitting this winter. I'd buy it again. I just wish it fit better considering it's the model that DieHard specs for our trucks.

Steve,
I spoken with the parts manager about this and he is open to price matching, but I still like using forum supporters, so I go that route unless I need something the same day.

What is the difference between a group 35 platinum and a regular platinum DieHard? I know on my DieHard Platinum I had to extend my positive cable to get it to fit, but the battery filled the tray.:hhmm:

You're a better man than I...I tried a week ago and they wouldn't budge, though we weren't discussing a battery. I do business with Cdan at American Toyota, if he can cross a Lexux pn to a Toyota equivalent part.

Group 35 simply is the size of the battery...different group numbers have different exterior dimensions, terminal positions, and/or cca capacities.

Thanks for the group definition. I have no idea what mine is. As for parts suppliers I agree and have been dealing with beno on most of my stuff and those American Toyota guys just rock!

Size 49 fits (barely), no mods, and 900 CCA throws the engine over with enthusiasm, much better than the stock size. Best thing is that its a common size I can find everywhere, the only size I found in stock that fits with no mods. I've used this size since the 90's in my Audis, very common size for German cars. $88, and they've always held up longer than the three(+5)-year warranty, sitting at O'Hare for days or my military base north of Detroit for weeks. The last one that failed in my Audi was over the three-year portion of the warranty, had started into the prorated five years, dropping about $18/year in warranty value. Sam's club charged me $7 for a new one, with full warranty again. If I hadn't sold that Audi I think I'd still be replacing that battery for some nominal amount every 3-5 years, which is what I plan to do with this one.

Thanks, scottm. Your link is bookmarked, thinking I'll probably use it around next fall.

Looks like tomorrow is new battery day for me...truck barely turned over all three cranks today. I doubt it cranks in the morning.

I'm about to do some searching on sears.com, but after a quick look I see three options:

Group 35, $95

Group 49, $155

Group 35 Platinum, $220

Anyone got any quick thoughts on which would be best? I will occasionally run my ARB fridge off this battery.

Thanks!

We just installed a Group 31 Diehard Platinum Marine battery in Lexi4Darins Lx470... it's a nice fit. You will have to pad the clamp, and space the front bolt as well as make a link extender.

EDIT: You need to get a longer j bolt,

I've heard discussions about not using deep-cycle batteries as starter batteries, not sure how significant that is, there have been threads on it here if you search. From Wiki:
The deep cycle (or motive) type is designed to continuously provide power for long periods of time (for example in a trolling motor for a small boat, auxiliary power for a recreational vehicle, or traction power for a golf cart or other battery electric vehicle). They can also be used to store energy from a photovoltaic array or a small wind turbine. Deep-cycle batteries have fewer, thicker plates and are intended to have a greater depth of discharge on each cycle, but will not provide as high a current on heavy loads. The thicker plates survive a higher number of charge/discharge cycles.
But if the CCA is high enough I don't see how this would be a consideration. I obviously chose the size 49, seems more than adequate so far for a minimal investment in battery and mods.

Despite the less than ideal fit of the OEM battery bracket (which I can tweak), I'd buy the Group 35 Platinum all over again.
