I've heard discussions about not using deep-cycle batteries as starter batteries, not sure how significant that is, there have been threads on it here if you search. From Wiki: But if the CCA is high enough I don't see how this would be a consideration. I obviously chose the size 49, seems more than adequate so far for a minimal investment in battery and mods.

1150 CCA with 200 plus minutes reserve. The group 31 DH is totally suited for starting. You do have to start your boat from time to time... My 100 has been called a barge.

We just installed a Group 31 Diehard Platinum Marine battery in Lexi4Darins Lx470... it's a nice fit. You will have to pad the clamp and space the front bolt as well as make a link extender.

What did you use for the extension? Looks like you padded the clamp right around where the handle falls, did you just use some adhesive foam?

I just bought one of these and was concerned about the fit with the OEM tray. Thanks in advance.

The link extender is a 3" long copper plate, 3/16" thick. We upgraded Darin to a Mil Spec terminal clamp so we needed to twist the extender so one surface is vertical and one horizontal. adhesive foam for padding. Rubber and washer spacer for the front bolt and longer J bolt in back. This setup has very sight contact with the hood on the front bolt for the strap. a diffent hold down would take care of it.
