Hopefully I didn't mess anything up...

I removed (without paying attention to what gear it was in /smack) the shifter so that I could drop the transmission.

I installed the transmission on to the motor and re-installed the whole shooting match.

I re-installed the shifter (as I peer into the cover, looks like it can only go in one way).

When I try to shift the shifter around, its solid rock - shifter won't budge in any direction.

What's going on?

Thank you for any insight.

I am assuming you are talking about a manual transmission...

my first thought is that the shifter is wedged between the shift forks. Have you tried removing and reinstalling the shifter? You could also try removing the shifter and see if you can manually line up the shift forks to where there is an opening all the way across...that should be neutral (i think....) The shifter should drop easily all the way into the hole up to the spring when you find the right gear position

X2! I just went through this. Take the lever back out and use a flat blade screwdriver to line up the shift forks. I don't have a picture but you will know when they are lined up.

Yep. And next time, make sure it is in neutral when you take the shifter out.

Just had this happen to me last night, and all I can say is thank goodness someone else posted on this. Easy fix with a little searching on Mud.

Again, Mud to the rescue.

Thanks!
