My '76 FJ40 had a non-OEM carb on it, and I've returned it to an OEM-style carb with mechanical linkage (thus, I've never seen a working throttle linkage up close - so this is all a frigging mystery to me).

Here is mine, after refurbishment with all new rubber, fittings, paint, etc. Am I missing something, or is the shaft just so worn that it is loose?

Currently it won't open the secondary on the carb (if I'm saying that right) and is very loose when actuating using the pedal. It moves not in one plane, but in multiple - in other words, it wobbles when it should be stiff and putting the motion into the throttle on the carb.

Vehicle is still being reassembled, so testing with the engine is not an option ATM.

Link to YouTube video showing the motion when pedal is pressed, and when I move it by hand.

Thanks for the help as always!

You are missing the bracket that attaches to the carb's fender side base studs. This is where your torque rod & return spring attaches too...(funny, the below pic from the web shows what you need.)

Maybe this will help mo better....

This is a job for the Big Skunk….. @ToyotaMatt
Vacuum secondary on that carb. Is that OEM or a Chinese?

hello mr. vae victus , happy new year .... :)

i see all your concerns and parts needs issues above clearly , i have everything you need on-hand freshly gold plated too , so no worries there on that topic ...

so forget all that JDM JAZZ for a moment and please take the time to and make the time for what you see below , because i did what i did here for people like you , because that's what i like to do ...

nothing else matters , then you being able to fully grasp the entire big picture skillset-understanding of all things Vintage TOYOTA Land Cruiser accelerator linkage 411 ......

then you can and will apply that new empowerment through education approach that my whole you-tube T-TEN inspired Technical Channel was created to do in a satire dry humor way that is at the same time dead nutz serious too ...

after all , your linkage hangs up and unintended acceleration occurs , lets just NEVER go there is the main point on that

It’s a TrollHole card - about 8 years old but new. Not a carb expert. Are there concerns?
You should be good. A few years ago, I bought a TH carb while Jim C rebuilt my OEM unit. I also had it tapped for a return line so my fuel supply/return system wasn't changed. It was a very good replacement. Actually a MUD member has it on his rig right now and said his 40 hasn't run this good for long-long time. If you have any issues, reach out.

Thanks man! How are things in HotLanta?

Ok, next question - what are the specs of the OEM studs, and can I get longer ones somewhere? Perhaps someone has this info at the tip of their tongue instead of all the esoteric research that one normally has to launch into....

Ok, I asked this same question 5 years ago. I guess I'd better get this truck done so I don't have to start over.

I am looking on BelMetric.com at their studs. I think I can make one of these work.
