I really didn't want to have to call Daniel out, but he now has owed me a refund for months, and he told me the final refund payment of $2500 would be sent in mid December, but still nothing. You left me no choice. No updates at all, I have been bugging him for weeks, he finally responded today but seems to not have the money or just refuses to pay me for some reason.

Very long story short, Daniel had a 40 on FB last March, we came to an agreement that I would pay over several months to build it out. I made several payments, but he kept disappearing for weeks so I stopped sending payments. Why send more money to someone who won't even give me an update? I asked for weeks for updates and he finally sent me a few random pics and promised to stay in touch. He then disappeared again for weeks. I started asking for a refund in June. He then completely ignored me for 6+ weeks. I called, emailed, texted, etc with zero response. I told him that his word was no good and I needed a full refund. He kept refusing, and also refused to do any more work. He finally said he would try and sell it and then refund me, despite not doing any work on the 40. After months of that BS, he finally said he sold it in November and sent me a partial refund. Then in mid December said he was cashing a check from the buyer and would have my refund sent. Well, nothing but crickets since then and I reached out to him numerous times.

TL : DR Daniel Happley stills owes me $2500 and promised the payment over a month ago and still refuses to send it. @DHapp please live up to your word, be a man, and send me my refund today.

Thanks all

Tim

Thanks man! It is the principle at this point. Tired of being given the run-around and just tired of playing. Life is too short!!

FYI he just texted me "The more I am insulted the less obligated I feel. "

:rolleyes::bang:

It sucks when things like this happen bc I think when dealing in groups like this there is a higher level of trust, whether founded or not and some take advantage of that. Would like to hear the other side though.

$2500 deserves a police report if communication stopped

I never saw it in person, I live in Denver and he is in Texas. I trusted a fellow MUD member. It is just sad.

Yup, he owed me $6500 for months, finally paid $4k in November. I don't want to get him into any trouble with the law, but I am almost at that point. I will give him until Friday.

Thanks for your support guys. I had a 40 stolen also a couple of years ago. I appreciate all of you good guys that I have bought and sold parts and rigs with!! MUD rocks. :)

Sigh. Expect a long winded rant from him soon blaming me for everything. Yup I stopped sending him payments when he refused to send updates or pics or anything. Just do the right thing @DHapp

He is actively trying to sell rigs and parts here and on FB....

I’m sorry to hear you’re having issues here. I purchased the ARB bumper off of Daniel’s 40 that he was selling a couple years ago and it was an above board and smooth transaction from the jump. Good communication and no surprises. Hope there’s a positive outcome with this situation.

This sucks.
Dude should definitely give you the last of your money.

Hey @timmbuck2, curious about this line:

Seems out of context?
Agreed, don't know of Danny to have legal issues, so not sure it's fair to speculate here.

Im sorry to hear about this, I've known Danny since 2019 and have bought and sold parts yearly with him. A friend of mine bought a whole cruiser from him last year and had him do a bunch of work and while it did take longer than expected, he did deliver. His communication can be spotty, but he has been nothing but honest and fair. He's also a super nice guy in general and has been in the cruiser community for longer than most. Hope this is successfully resolved.

This is a well worded response that sums up my experience with Danny as well.

While the OP may have a legitimate beef here, I don't think it is appropriate to randomly elude to legal issues.

I will change it.

I am glad others have had a good experience with him, I truly am. My main goal here is to make sure others are not scammed. Based on his behavior and texts and attitude, I do not expect him to do the right thing here, he has had 7+ months to make this right. I am also very deeply involved in the Toyota community and I hope nobody else is treated like this, ever, by anyone. I don't want him to get a felony charge here, that can mess up a life. But I have had to deal with this for almost a year now and the toll on my life is not insignificant.

I purchased a 40 series truck from @DHapp last year and left it there to tie up loose ends, he completed the work and even delivered it to my home 80 miles away. A few months later I wanted some larger projects done to the rig, including a new transmission. He again came and picked up the rig and took it to his shop for me and while there were a few hiccups with communication and timing this go around, I want to emphasize that he delivered on his promise. He was honest throughout the process, and I got exactly what was agreed upon, and a bit more. Sometimes things take longer than expected, but in my experience, he made sure the deal was done right. Danny is a one man shop, and while I understand that delays can be frustrating, he stood by his word and got the job done.

I know folks in my area that have done business with Danny and have never hear of anything like this before.

Well, yet again, Danny's word is no good. Thursday night he said he would be sending my payment on Friday. Cool. Late friday he sends $1k. Still owes $1500. No communication at all on the balance. I asked him yesterday and today for updates, nothing. As usual.

Again, glad others have had good luck with him, but I had a few guys reach out to me privately after I posted this to say they had similar issues, and a quick MUD search shows a couple others. Just asking anyone who is thinking about doing business with him to do their due diligence. I take full responsibility for that. If I had done my due diligence here, I would never had done business with him. I am just too trusting, and too nice. I should have just called the police and taken him to court 6 months ago.

Thanks all, really hoped to see this get resolved this weekend.

2 more days, zero communication and zero payments. @DHapp is definitely not a man of his word and should not be trusted.

I guess as expected here is "my side" of the situation.

I will start by saying if you buy a vehicle and are having a work done at a shop and become unhappy with any work or progress being made you can go pick up your vehicle at anytime as long as you are paid up to what work has currently been done.

I sold Tim a project FJ40. We agreed to price, created a build sheet and payment schedule to correspond to what he wanted. Not a single payment including the first payment was made to the agreed schedule and Tim was unreachable at times too. Small shops like mine use these schedules to plan parts orders and work to be done and if they aren't made according to that schedule other customers cars are put in front until the payments are caught back up. Once Tim had paid up to the point of the agreed upon price of the base vehicle he owned it. All other payments and work were to be done according to the build schedule. The build was estimated to be over 10k and the $6,500 Tim had invested were for the base price of the cruiser as well as a motor and trans change he had wanted as laid out in the build plan. I was unreachable for a while and I had let Tim know why. My son has constant health issues and is in and out of the hospital as most of my customers know so cruiser work tends to fall last to my family and 9-5 job. I work on and build Cruisers because I enjoy it.

Once Tim decided to not continue with the build he was able to pick up his cruiser at anytime he wanted to but he just insisted on a full refund. I don't know any shops or especially a small one like mine that refund the purchase of a vehicle or work done because a customer changes his mind. Since that didn't seem to be an option for Tim I offered to sell his Cruiser for him and would pay him the selling price once it was sold and continue to send him payments as the new owner made payments on their new build. He told me to sell the cruiser so that is what I have done and continue to do for TIm. I paid him the 4k as he mentioned when the cruiser sold, another 1k last week as work has been completed and paid and will pay his final 1500 as the new build continues.

The work I did on Tims cruiser to put the new motor and trans in will never be paid by him to me. The new owners wanted the original motor and trans back in it. A sellers fee will never be paid to me by Tim for the time I spent selling his cruiser for him and the FB Harassment Tim has issued upon commenting on every for sale ad I have ever had will never be rectified. But Tim will get his full $6,500 back as I told him he would.

I have a rather large customer base and can't think of anyone who I have ever scammed or screwed over. I go above and beyond for the cruisers I work on because I enjoy them, not for money and profit. But as Tim has mentioned several times via this forum and repeated texts that I need to "do the right thing" I am doing just as I told him I would do.

"Once Tim decided to not continue with the build"

I decided this when you decided to not respond to my emails, calls, texts or voice mails. For months. There was no "build" at that time, nor after. And that was 8 months ago. You have now told me 3 times I would get my final payment and all 3 times you have not followed through. You had done no work and sent me no pics showing any work. I am still waiting for the promised refund. You making up stories is not helping. You are not living up to your word nor doing the right thing. You reneged on the contract when you refused to respond for months nor show me progress. And yes I want anyone who wants to do business with you to see these threads and know that there are multiple people out here that have had bad experiences with you. Danny YOU are the one who caused this deal to fall through by not responding for months. And that has happened several times, not just once. I have had to take care of ill and dying parents myself, but I still managed to ask you for updates dozens of times with zero response. Talking to others, this happens a LOT of time. Pay me as you have promised numerous times.
