not necessary to blast the good paint away)
When the paint job is done, grease the inside of the frame .
Think your body shop can do it.

After the paint cures I will probably spray the seams etc with some light penetrating grease :D
 
Bear Grylls would just pee on it. But yeah, on my project I am using diluted grease on the seams.

Sounds like an exciting venture. Lots of people interested in this one. Grats on all the progress!

Speaking of time lines...what estimates do you have for the tub to be prepped and painted, the frame, and do you have any clue when the engine and newly painted tub should be back on the newely painted frame...more or less?
 
Frame will likely happen first, as the tub will need metal work etc.
Probably a few weeks for all the parts to be painted and body work etc.
Then curing time.

The frame will probably be done first, then i can pop the rear wiring harness on and start working on the little things. I think once every thing is done it will take a while to reassemble.

Probably a month or so. after i get everything back.
 
That sounds alright.

You are correct, it will be nice to get the frame back assembled sooner so that you can go over everything, and tidy up the loose ends :beer:
 
So quation about wiring looming for my wiring harness etc.

I want to put on a pvc like sleeving on wires but cannot find anythign locally.

I like the look and seems consistent to what was stock, and will fit into the wiring clips etc.

Any ideas for a local chain that might carry something like this?
 
did you try mcmaster-carr?

they carry alot of stuff like that...but...alot of times they are pricy....how much could a lil plastic cost :rolleyes:

Just went by Shucks ( from a tip form Dallas, thanks man! )
And picked up the last 3 sets of 125 piece class 8 JIS fasteners in a kit :D
9 bucks a box :D

The hardware has been good to me and I plan on getting a couple more, can't beat the price.

As far as your wiring goes, you can just go get a nice roll of shrink tube, looks the same as the pvc stuff, and you can slightly oversize the shrink tube.

Stock it seems like they just wound electrical tape around the wires to me. In SOME cases yes - I have noticed the pvc-like tubing on things but the main wiring harness branches have all been electrical wrapped it seems.

FYI, I have bad gas. Best not come over today.

Motor is off :D

The are gonna blast of all the rust disassemble the bits and primer and paint it all :D
The are gonna paint the axels and leaf springs and even dismount the tires and paint the wheels :D

Goign to be a burly industrial primer and hardcore industrial black paint.
Basically the toughest most durable stuff you can spray :D

Really excited.
If in of you cats in portland need some good paint people I would recommend these guys.
Clint the owner is a kick ass individual, easy to work with etc.
There site is wonkey but they do high profile work and are all about quality :D

Next steps are the removing surface rust minor disassembly, acid and primer and paint :D

The said it will probably be ready early next week, to drop the motor in and i can start doing the rear electrical bits etc :D

Double check all your brake lines (hard and soft) easier to fix now. Check out the great 9mm brake line write up Dusty66 did...do you know the one I am talking about?

You can change them later, so no big deal.
 
Also looking forward to having a large shop someday where i can have the gear to attempt alot of this stuff i am incapable of doing on my own :)

Hats of to Dallas and et al for there restore projects, I hope to to more of the work myself next time around :D

After my wife finishes medical school, we might buy a place near baker city in oregon ( where we can have horses and a shop ) and rent our old restored victorian in inner city portland.
( I can have a huge shop out there :)

Looking at the frame I take it the bracket on the front crossmember is for the winch. If not remove it. Looks like your spending some real coin on this restore. Might want to think if your going to want to go OEM winch sometime in the future. Then find the OEM fog lghts and you have about every option offered from the factory in 1964:rolleyes:

I spent to much on too many cruiser to afford to send to send one out. But I just keep collecting OEM parts:cheers:
