I am gearing up to do some major body damage repair that may include roof and head liner replacement. If it ends up going that way, it would be an opportunity to consider a sunroof delete and replace my current US spec 200 roof with one that doesn't have the sunroof. Has anyone do this on a US spec 200? I did find a thread in the 80 series forum on the topic but nothing here. I kinda doubt anyone has done this on a 200 just because they wanted the sunroof done as replacing the roof and headliner would be pretty expensive but In my case insurance hopefully will be paying for this.

I need to spend a little time looking at the specific parts to make sure there are not other structural elements or connection details at the pillars that could be different making it more involved than just installing the new roof/head liner.

I hate my sunroof, but not enough to undergo a project like you're proposing. Love the idea though.

Mine simply stays closed all the time. Should it ever fail it'll fail closed and it won't be an issue. Hell, I'll likely never even know, you've gotta open the damn thing to know wether or not it still works lol.

If mine ever starts leaking, I will silicone the sunroof perimeter and will unplug the sunroof controls. Problem solved.

It’s a shade tree mechanic fix, but nobody will be looking at the roof anyway.

I deleted mine with a piece of vinyl.
I will someday cut out the center of the vinyl so the moonroof is an option.

I have a perforated sunroof drain line, and fixing it isn’t a priority.

I use my sunroof and leave it open while driving if the temp is below 85-90 which its not in Dallas these days.

Glad it came with one, wouldn't pay extra for it but since it was there anyway nice perk.

Presumably anyone welding metal could weld something to close it up. Keep the interior sunroof slide closed and you don’t need to swap the entire headliner. Otherwise I’d search partsouq.com

Thanks guys. I know it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to replace the whole roof and headliner just to delete the sunroof. I also realize some people like and use their sunroof. I rarely ever use mine and would not miss it if it were gone. In my unique case, it may cost me nothing to delete it and have it look OEM and eliminate any future leak potential. I figured no one has likely done this but thought I’d ask as you never know.

Good idea!

Does Toyota offer an OEM roof panel without the sunroof? At one time the non sunroof version was available for an 80 series and that was the contemplation (and maybe executed?)for a few members several years ago.

I am sure there are others that just welded up the panel on a sunroof version, I guess either is possible just depends on how much you want to spend and your expectations of the results.

Well I should have researched the skin pricing haha.

How much for skin install labor?

A lot. But there would be big labor installing a pop top as well.

From a brief look the base price was 8500 and it quickly went up from there with options.

Not that I dislike the idea.. just.. there is a great reason this mod isn't more common.

Being that I'm always looking for more storage space, removing the sunroof and welding a piece of steel over the opening (or just disengaging and not operating sunroof) could present an opportunity for additional storage space of some kind. It ain't much, but there's gotta be a way to put that 32"x19" space to good use if the sunroof is deleted.

The quotes I have are 23 hours @ $60/hr plus you would have to paint it which is 4 hrs x $40/hr. So $1540 plus $1600 for the skin. There are definitely cheaper ways to achieve a sunroof delete if that was all you wanted and you were starting from a none damaged roof situation that was forcing you replace the roof anyway.

I'm with @grinchy , I'll probably vinyl wrap the roof just to prevent any potential leaks in the future (and save the clear coat because I'm definitely not going to wax up there). I never open the thing and the felt interior cover makes a lot of noise over bumps, so I'd like to slide it open to reduce noise, but I don't want the sun in the cabin.

I've thought about a white roof vinyl wrap in tribute to the 40/55, but it would probably look dumb on a LX570.

To the OP, I would just let insurance bring it back to stock to preserve resale value *shrugs* Or a campteq would be a major upgrade if it budgets out

That’s way cheaper than I figured. I would have expected double honestly.

I knew you were doing a full roof repair so that’s what I was going off of..
