Hi all.
As the title, I would like to eliminate the factory alarm on my hdj80.
In the last days the batteries got descharge for no reason and after excluding the most common causes, I would understand if the alarm is causing the failure.
Anybody did it? Is there a way for unplug it from the batteries?
I just checked the forum, but didn't find any suggestion regarding this.
Thanks in advance for any explanations or posting useful links.

Mario,

I removed my system completely. When I bought mine, the original owner had all the batteries from the key fobs removed and he said he didnt use the system. I was working onthe 80 one day and removed the battery etc.........when I hooked the battery back up, the alarm went off and I had no way to shut it off. I started pulling wires and black boxes and got the horn to stop but it wouldn't start. I ended up going wire by wire very patiently and removing the whole system. I have not had any problems since then. Make sure your problem actually lies with the alarm system and then be very very patient and carefully remove the system. Dash parts had to be removed for me to get to all connections and there are many of them. Good luck.

The OEM alarm is mostly plug and play, so you be able to remove it without too much drama. I used to have a install manual for the ones on the 95 models. If I can find it, it might help you to locate the connection points.

You can find a copy of the manual on Slee's site.

RS3000

Just read it backwards and you should be able to figure out how to remove the alarm.

Nice directions....There looks to be quite of few splices ad connections to be undone. I'd like to find a way to simply unplug the unit under the seat and under the dash and just leave everything there. I havent messed with it as I don't want to lose keyless entry.

It's pretty easy to get it out. I didn't have any drama getting it out completely. Do the Pin 7 mod while you're in there. Might as well.

wspastorbryan....did the keyless entry still work after the alarm is removed. I have not idea if the 2 are interconnected.

Thanks everybody for suggestions
But.. What's should happen, simply disconnetting the ECU under the seat?
Will not get the target?

If I remember correctly there is a starter kill relay in the rs3000 alarm. Which means unplugging it without removing the ignition switch jumper harness will not allow the car to start. I haven't had an 80 one apart, but have played with one on a 4Runner which should be the same.

All you have to do is remove the column covers and unplug the jumper or T harness between the ignition switch and the car's original wiring and plug it back together.

Ok.
So this week I'll launch the definitive attack to this fu***n alarm!
update you soon..
Ciao

All but two of the interior lights on my LC do not work and I was wondering if the alarm could be involved. The two lights that work are the passenger front and driver's rear door (courtesy) lights. All the others do not have 12 volts at the bulbs. I have exercised the door switches and even jumpered a few of them with no change in behavior. If two door lights, although on opposite corners, are working, I would think that the light relay buried deep in the dash might be flaky? Other possibly related symptoms include the light around the ignition cylinder that worked for a while but no longer does (I have not checked this bulb) and green Auto light in the driver's door is intermittent and illuminates less frequently these days. The truck has no other electrical problems.

Following these related threads:

https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-...courtesy-light-rear-dome-light-do-work-2.html

The alarm was described as "problematic" by the PO of the truck and I am planning to take it out, but has anyone else had this problem?

davenm, you should make a new thread on this topic and not hijack this one :D

IMO you should check your door jamb wiring.

Hi there,
Where I can find an image of the part to remove into the column?
Does a tutorial existing on the forum? ( removing switch jumper and replace everything correctly)
Thanks

Can confirm that removing the alarm only will not let you start the car. Should be obvious which wires you need to reconnect once you look at it. (should be the same color wire split in two, spliced into the alarm)

I notice a switch on my alarm unit that lets you turn the alarm off, thereby it would be keyless entry only.

I also notice an active/passive arming switch, so perhaps thats why your alarm went crazy when you re-connected the battery if you had it in active mode.

perhaps your dimmer is bad, not sure if the dimmer would control the courtesy lights or not..

best to remove any wiring that the PO may have done. When got my 80, there was a relay wired to the starter.. that was connected to the battery.. so it was always powered, and would only add a slight delay when starting.. Splicing the starter wire back together was a tight squeeze.

Not trying to hijack the thread but just seeing how/if the alarm wiring might somehow "hijack" door switches and prevent interior lights from working. Will look into the door jamb wiring and post this idea elsewhere. Thanks.

My alarm has a wire tap connector in the cluster area, I think to flash the dash and corner lights when you arm/disarm. Perhaps if the connector went bad or got yanked on enough to cut the original wire?

First thing I did on my HDJ80 was remove the OE alarm and fit an aftermarket unit. No drama at all. follow the wires and take your time. The main reason for failure on these units is water gets in through the screen rubber and drips on the unit under the glove box rotting the connections.

regards

Dave

I unplugged the box from under the seat on my 1993 FZJ80 and tossed it. The PO had unplugged the horns from so many false alarms. The false alarms would still kill the battery though even with the horns disconnected. Everything works fine since removing the box. Also, the cruise control that I could not get working now works perfectly.
