ft. myers 1983 fj-60 how do i join flca ?

Go to FLCA.org and show up at one of the get togethers would be the easiest, but you can also PM Jerry or Archie on the FLCA board. The contact info is a bit dated on the original FLCA board. If you get to the FLCA.org then go to "Forums" it should direct you to the new forum.

GSMTR Travel Plans

I have a friend with a car carrier which can hold 10 trucks. If enough members are interested we can divide up the cost between us and probably save MONEY...especially with the price of fuel. Vehicles can be packed with all the gear and you can then fly up to Chattanooga (cheap) or drive up without trailoring your truck. We will have a rental car or a on road vehicle to shuttle to and from the airport so you can come and go when you want. Tentative plans would be to have the trucks arrive on the weekend before and return Monday or Tuesday following the event. We can park any trucks at Archie's business in a locked yard prior to loading and after return if this helps your schedule.
ANYONE INTERESTED PLEASE POST UP SO WE CAN COME UP WITH THE NUMBER OF TRUCKS AND THEREFORE THE COSTS PER PERSON.

Sounds good...

Well, let's see...
From Orlando to Sparta is around 640 miles. Towing my rig, I might get around 8 miles a gallon at $3.50 per (if I'm lucky on both) which is going to be $560 round trip. I'll probably spend $40 on 2 lunches and 2 dinners and snacks while on the road. That brings my total to around $600 without any unforeseen additional expenses. I know I can fly round trip on Allegiant Air or Air Tran to Chattanooga or Knoxville respectively for around $100.00 cattle class including cow pie fees & taxes. I know I'm going to do $100 of wear and tear on my vehicle so I'll consider the flight a wash. So if I can get my truck and gear up and back for $600 I'm in. Anything less will be a gain. I'll save two days of boring drive, fly in when I want to, hit the trails fresh, have a great time, and fly back...ready to go to work Monday morning not exhausted from that 10 1/2 hour drive home. Was that a free shuttle to and from the airport upon arrival/departure? This could be awesome! Count me in.

Gsmtr registration open!

GSMTR Registration is open!
Go to Upstate Cruisers on Mud to register.
This is the 20th Annual GSMTR.
Registration is limited to 200 trucks!
This event is open to all four wheel drive vehicles so it should fill fast.
This will be an outstanding event!:steer::wrench:

I'm behind the times. Just found this forum.

It looks like a Meet N Greet is in order. Tampa seems to be central location for many of those that have posted here.

Not many places to wheel around Tampa, and wheeling events are pretty much covered by FLCA and other clubs and unclubs around.

Maybe a social get together?

In the past we've gathered at Gandy Beach or a Tampa Restaurant.

I could do a Gandy Beach BS session any evening. I know Gandy Beach doesn't have much to offer, especially if you have to drive a ways, but it's a place to gather.

Weekends can be difficult to plan something, because people usually have plans. Although we did have a big turnout for a late Sunday afternoon restaurant meet.

Any suggestions or ideas?

I'll post up on some other forums too.

Steve

Worth mentioning:
FLCA has a Wallaby Run Feb 12th near Lakeland which would qualify as a social event.
A person would would probably have to join FLCA to participate in the Powder Puff or would have to sign up for the lunch in advance. I can't speak for the FLCA, but I would think anyone could show up to look at Cruisers and BS.
I plan on going to see what those guys have been up to.

Would love to hear how this goes. I'm moving to Palm Beach area May 1 and would love to get some local input

Metal-tech 4x4 - Group Buy for GSMTR

Buy any Metal-tech 4x4 brand product and get 10% off AND Metal-tech will donate another 10% to GSMTR! You also get discounted shipping. Get the gear for yourself and help support GSMTR at the same time.

How it works. Call Metal-tech 4x4 (800-839-6797) and place your GSMTR/Group Buy order before May 1st for any Metal-tech 4x4 brand product. (Roll cage kits, FJ80 Sliders, FJ40/FJ Cruiser Tube doors etc.) Metal-tech will give you the discount and discount your shipping as to what you ordered. Everyone’s order will ship together to IPOR before GSMTR. Lance and Cam will then bring your ordered parts down to GSMTR for pick up. Metal-tech 4x4 will then donate a full 10% of what you purchased directly to GSMTR to help support the event in addition to the sponsorship Metal-tech is already doing.

If you want something fabricated or put together like a turnkey rollcage I'd suggest to order ASAP. Don't wait till the last couple weeks to get it made.

Fine print: Discount only valid on items in stock, no back orders sorry. Your order must ship to GSMTR in order to get the discount. Not going, no problem have your buddy that is going to GSMTR pick it up for you, get the discount and support the event.

As well Mark from Metal-Tech will be attending this years event. He has also stepped up and is bringing us the new pint glasses with the a new green MT logo on them. They will be available for those coming to The 20th GSMTR 2011. Also we have some other cool things from MT coming for the event.

Please post up if you have any questions.

I'm going to be first in line as I'm getting a set of tube doors for the 40.

Great to see this group here, I'm moving to PalmBeach area May 1 and hope to catch up with some of you guys.

still planning details of the trip. Have not gotten word yet on where i can legally set up camp. Some of the keys islands are part of a national park/wildlife reserve and i know those are illegal to camp on. The ones not marked in green on google maps (hundreds, maybe thousands of them) are the ones i'm interested in.

Camp grounds are out. I'm looking for a small island to camp on so my dogs can also run free, it's a vacation for them too. It would be nice for them to not be in violation with leash laws and on a small island i can be sure they are not bothering wild life or other campers.

I went on a beach camping trip in Oct on the coast of NC. What i found there was my current tent does not hold up well to winds.

I've got to get some cot tents before this trip happens. I can fit my family in two of them. They are super easy to set up and do well in all conditions that i would see on the beach.

Gsmtr questions answered...

What's this event all about?

It's about getting as many Toyota 4x4 enthusiast together and having a really good time. You need to look at this event like a vacation and not just another wheeling event. The event lasts from Monday to Sunday. We have a motto with Upstate Cruisers, "Something for Everyone". This means while every aspect of the event might not be right up your alley we will make sure there is more that is and more than you will ever be able to do. We have the entire park to ourselves. No outsiders allowed. You can do just about anything you want as long as it's within reason.

What did we learn from last years event?

We learned we have to pick up the trash more than twice at the event. We will probably do it 3 or 4 times during the event. We found out that hiring a fancy caterer was not a great idea and that while we might expect 200 people to eat it didn't happen. So this year we included 1 meal per driver. This way we can get a good account of who is eating. We also learned that having the band play on Sat night after the raffle was not a great idea. Everyone wants to get back to their campsite right after the raffle. This year we moved the band to Friday night and we will now have the dinner Sat night during the raffle so you don't have to cook and can already pack up you pots and pan.

What trails will be available for trail runs?

Everything. From very mild trails for beginners to very, very technical trails. There is also a dirt track, and a motocross track if you want to bring a dirt bike or 4 wheeler.

What's the price of GSMTR 2011? What does it include?

The price of registration is $65, plus a $10 daily trail use fee. Registration includes 1 dinner on Saturday night, 1 drivers raffle ticket and a couple GSMTR stickers.

Is the price of camping at Golden Mountain included in my registration fee?

Yes, There are many, campsites available. If we run out of the regular sites we will start using the secondary camp site in between the volley ball courts and the pond. There is plenty of room for every and we don't want to put you on top of people. All campsites will be with in a hundred yards of the men and women restrooms. And we are not talking about port-a-jons. Real bathrooms.

Do I have to pay extra for family and friends?

Only if they bring their own vehicle for the trails. Family and friends are welcome to the event. Just don't bring one vehicle and 20 of your friends.

Are there showers? Do I have to pay to use them?

Yes. There are 2 men and 2 women showers at the entrance to the park. The showers are free. You can use them as often as you like. We just ask that you cleanup after you use them.

Do I need to make my own camping reservations at Golden Mountain?

No, only if you want to use one of the RV sites or stay in one of the bunk house rooms. You will have to arrange that with the park through this website. Reservations | Golden Mountain Park

Do I have to stay at Golden Mountain to participate in GSMTR?

No, you can stay wherever you want. If you want to get a hotel room or condo in Sparta or the other cities that is fine with us.

Local(ish) shops

Hey guys, recently moved to Sanford/Orlando area. I need a good shop to do some axle rebuilds for me on my FZJ80 and was looking for recommendations. Any ideas?

Thanks

Chris

Dont want to take it on yourself? Not hard, just a little messy. Could easily be a tech session for FLCA.

I thought about it, but I wanted to have someone who knows what they are doing there too so I don't screw it up. I just wanted to get it done quick for this service, but was going to plan on doing it on my own next time. If I can't find a good place (or its too expensive) i'll look to take it on myself with my trusty hanes manual and IH8MUD write ups. hah.

Interesting idea about a tech session. I'm not a TLCA/FLCA Member yet so not sure how that would work out.

Join one or the other and go for it. You can post up on FLCA for details, next meeting etc. There is a guy in Ocala that could do it, fellow cruiserhead, PM me if interested.
