Any advantage or disadvantages to purchasing a 200 series without a KDSS system on it? I'm looking at a 2011 Land Cruiser w/ 118,000 miles that will be used as a DD. Dealer wants $35k for it. I noticed last nite when I was showing my girlfriend the videos the manager sent me, something was off. Then it hit me that the rear, has no sway bar, no hydraulic ram, and no fixed link. Then I noticed in the video, the front had a sway bar, but no hydraulic ram on the driver's side. Is it possible this L.C. had no KDDSS to begin with? If so, how would I be able to tell?

The KDSS bar is on the front of the rear axle, but I can't really tell if it's there. What I can tell is that this car is rusty, and be prepared with the headaches that come with a rust vehicle.

You won't have a typical sway bar running across the back of the axle. I'd be shocked if there was one without KDSS, since every LC200 in US was supposed to come with it.

But shouldn't there be a hydraulic ram on the rear driver side axl, as well as a permanent link on the rear of the axle on passenger side?

Rust wise, I was told it's all surface rust and their is no rot on the bottom side.

And after looking around I found the same info. If that's the case, that pretty much drops the value of the vehicle significantly.

No KDSS = no sway bar = bad for anything outside Rubicon trail. :)
True dat. Just out of curiosity, how much does a KDSS system cost to replace? I'm just curious b/c I see alot of 4Runner owners griping about it and what not.

Are you sure they're griping about KDSS and not ATRAC? I helped a 4runner guy pull that system. I haven't heard the complaints about KDSS. Hmmm.

KDSS implementation is very different on the 200 vs the 4Runner/GX, so you can’t compare pictures. Living in Michigan rust will be an inevitable issue so I wouldn’t be as worried about it on a used vehicle.

I’m betting the system is there, but with that amount of corrosion the balance screws will be difficult to deal with. Many have been able to get them moving with some work. Up to you whether that is a disqualifier or not. Search for KDSS rust or corrosion for more info
