Insurance companies haven’t been doing much stuff in person lately. After my accident in May the only time I saw someone was when they were picking up the 4Runner to take it to a junkyard.

^ This.

Last year and the year before when we were rear ended both times those insurance companies had me take and email pictures so it’s been going on around here for a while.

Same here for our fender bender on Easter, all done through an app until it went in for repairs which was simply replacing the plastic with the Ironman bumper. Insurance sucks no matter who it is, hopefully they do right by you and you're back on the road soon. I also feel better about my Ironman bumper now as well lol.

Damn. Impressive in a number of ways. Glad the wife was only "rattled" and nothing more damaging.
I have a drivers side assembly, but 14+. Hopefully they get it buttoned back together in no time.

no animal (with exception of a moose) is worth swerving for, ever. Hit them head on, every time, it's the safest way.
Might want to add horse and elk to that list, depending on the local fauna.

Like you I've told my wife not to swerve to avoid smaller critters. You'll walk away from a deer hit. Lose control and leave the pavement, especially where we are can be fatal.

But those long legged critters can slide across the hood and end up in the car with you.

My brother moved to Alaska in 2015 and has to deal with the moose problem and stories like this are quite common. Better to face the tree or ditch in a passenger sedan / sports car than hit a moose square. May fare better in a GX, especially a lifted one with an aftermarket bumper.

I agree. A vehicle with a low hood tangling with long legged critters such as moose, horse or elk is a completely different situation than with a deer or other low slung animal.

With the tall ones I'd take the ditch option.

Black cows in open range at night
Back in the 80s a friend of mine headed to work in pre-dawn darkness. He ploughed into two angus cows standing in the middle of the road. Was in a F250 and going fast. In the hospital a long time, recovered but with permanent after effects.

Black cows in open range at night.........

can be a real problem......

Extra lighting I think is a partial answer....
That's why it's really important to have headlights/aux driving lights that throw out far enough so you don't "out-run" your lights.
Albeit, nothing can be done when approaching a blind curve.

Does that bumper affect the airbag?
Airbags should still work with aftermarket bumpers.
I believe they are deployed upon "X" foot pounds force of inerita.
(Wiki) Acrad would probably know for sure.

A girl I know and her husband were driving through the desert at night and hit a black cow they never saw. She ended up having to relearn how to walk after extensive surgeries.

airbags never deployed....

car was driven the remainder of her 12 mile commute

Are there any US manufacturers that have air bag compatible & tested like ARB?
