Hello,

Does anyone have advice on what to look at to decrease rattling? On dirt or rough roads, my 1993 Cruiser has some rattling. I believe it's coming from the undercarriage. Does anyone know what might components have a habit of coming loose? Any input is very much appreciated. Thanks.

Check any and all exhaust shields, check shock bolts, Panhard rod bolts, control arm bolts…beyond that as far as undercarriage goes there’s not much else to check to stop rattles…of courser going deeper means steering linkages, steering u joint…

Exhaust: rubber mount hangers, heat shields

Suspension components and bushings

Body mounts

Engine and transmission mounts

Door hinges

On the interior the plastic clips/ pins that hold trim on get broken and rattle.

What does it sound like?

The sun roof shade in my experience can vibrate and rattle like a mofo, (especially when in the shading the cabin position) horrid buzzing noise on washboard

I had an annoying rattle under mine that I could never find until I replaced the shocks a short while back.
can drive over dirt roads and corrugations now without it
I always thought it was one of the exhaust rubber mounts but ended up being one of the shocks, dont know exactly which one though but suspect the rears as they had minimal compression resistance when removed.

Springs rubbing the front bump stops? Whack them with a rubber mallet and you'll know right away if that's the problem.

Mine was shattered, but all the peices were still there; rattled like crazy. I pulled all the broken bits out and that fixed it.

I would also add checking the spare tire, they can be loose or if you don't run a spare the chain system can rattle on rough roads.
