death of speedometer!

    for some reason the other day the speedometer and odometer stopped workin on my 79 40. Do i need a new unit or what?

    check the speedo gear. it's plastic and can melt. if this happened, i'd be inclined to say your T case may be on the way out (i'm 3 from 3 when this happened)

    does your t case make any noise?

    Sometimes the routing of the cable gets "moved" over the years, PO's and rework down below. If the cable was too close to the exhaust, it can melt through the cable over time. Mine was starting to do this and we moved it. My problem (why we looked) was it was bouncing (+/-5MPH) until it climbed over 30 MPH and then its steady. Did you have any indications like this before it failed?
