I live in hopkinton Ma. and work in chelsmford ma. and just dropped my truck off at the dealer a 2000 LC at Toyota of Milford Ma. and they say I need the following:
60K mile check $525 (to change some fluids??? etc)... front and rear rotors and pads over 1K  and a right rear emergency brake elbows 280  .... I have the 100K certified warranty and they tell me the elbows are not covered/ Should they be?

help.... anyone in Ma that does LC work cheaper then the dealer and does quality work Thanks for any referrals

or is this going price and just bite the bullet? i work 60 hrs a week so if its a matter of just saving 100-200 dollars on the entire job may just have to bite the bullet and do it as I don't have time to pick it up and drop it off someplace else unless I can save some decent money. Help.... any recomendations on local shops would be great....

Thanks

Steve

If you live in Mass you can probably afford the dealer rape..

I wouldn't pay it. Best thing I did was sell my 99 100 series. I think they are too fluffy!

I would ask more ?s. Like why do the rotors need replaced at 60K. You can easily get the 60k service done elsewhere for less. Brake elbows I know nothing about. How can they go bad/be damaged ?

Rotors are easy to change yourself. I'm a mechanical idiot and did it without any problems. Most fluids are even easiet than the rotors although I did have the cooling system flushed at the dealer. You should PM cruiserdan and ask him how much the e-brake elbows are. You can get the pads and rotors from him as well. He's a Toyota parts dealer that offers exceptional discounts for members of IH8MUD.

I kinda like the fluffy.

hey i dont think the price is that bad the brake job seems high but for the 60 k service is not unfortunatly i have a lx 470 and the 60k service for that is 1100 but a lot of work is done the biggest is the timing belt change i have a friend that works at a toyota dealership and was gonna do it for me but i am like you i work alot and when i have free time i really dont want to be going different places or actually doing the owrk in the winter summer ok winter no way so i would pay the money ask some questions to make sure they do all the stuff for the 60 k service on mine its like change filters etc all the fluids timing belt (which is a lot of work as im sure anyone on this forum will tell ya)

Funny. What'd you get instead that was better? A Yukon?

Got 88K on my rotors and they're fine despite being turned twice and driven hard. I'd look at what's included on the 60K service. Get some items (like fluids, etc) done elsewhere and some Toyota critical service at Toyota.

60k service is fluids only. No t belt. T belt happens at 90k. I had all four rotors replaced (new oe) and pads and it ran me 400.00. Your dealer is WAY off and they do have room to move i.e. they can offer you all types of internal discounts.

The 60k service can be done in another place rather than a dealer for about 1/2 that price the asking price and it is only fluids. I would also ask the service manager to give you more information on the rotor situation also ask him about that emergency brake elbow dealers rather replace than repair so make sure tha it is a must and not another way for the dealer to make its revenue quota.
by the way ive never seen a fluffy TLC! and if there was one I probably would have allready seen one in Socal :)

It does not sound too bad to me if it is the full 60k service which does include the spark plugs (required to maintain emmisions warrenty) and bearing repack as well as fluid changes. You also get the brakes done? Does not sound bad to me. Of course I did my 60k myself for about $150 with plugs.

The plugs are a 120K mile service- irridium plugs according to the manual. I know that has been debated before.

Aren't Jeeps less fluffy?

Here's the recall list for a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser:

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/60/006017AD.html

On the list, #24 relates to squealing from the rear brakes, and #20 to vibration in the front brakes. They might pertain to your vehicle. It would make me mad to find out the dealer has charged me for repairs and then turning around and also getting reimbursed by Toyota for "warranty" work. Good luck.

<Edit> I guess these are TSBs and not "recalls" as I initially thought...so I guess it's not as useful as I believed, but still interesting. Cheers.

Bought parts from Cruiser Dan, now need someone local

They should be in next week, front and rear rotors, front and rear pads, and this rear right ebrake elbow and bracket etc etc.. under 500 bucks delivered to my house.... Now I just need to find someone in Ma or NH that can help me or willing to do the work at a good price... would LOVE to find a toyota tech that does side work.... anyone know any? Thanks all for the input
