Anyone have (DBA?) rotors from Slee? If so, do you like them or should I stay with Toyota rotors. I guess I heard that you can't turn Toy rotors very successfully?

Local NAPA has front rotors for $60 a pair. Not sure if they are very good but most the stuff I have bought through NAPA has been of high quality.

I've been running the DBA slotted rotors the last 3 years. They are excellent. OEM I'm sure are excellent as well. The NAPA cheap ones are OK, I have a pair on my FJ40, but they definitely rust faster than DBAs or OEM and I wouldn't use them on an 80 unless it was just a trail rig/beater.

Hi Breck, I've got the DBA's and the PBR pads and I love em. Long lasting rotors, great consistent grip, no warpage whatsoever. HTH.

I've got the DBA rotors on the front of my 80 and I dig em. I've got akebono ceramic pads and the truck stops big time. Alot better braking then stock. No warpage that I've noticed either. If your willing to pop for em, I'd reccomend them.

But im wondering with the Slee DBA rotors do you be able to resurface/cut 'em?
Previously its very hard to find the shop to cut the cross drilled one.

Hi LX-TREME I have heard that the DBA can be resurfaced. Having heard that though, I would not resurface them personally, I would think that you would be able to get two to three sets of pads on them before thinning them out and then at that point I'd just replace the rotors. Sorta overkill but I dont dick around with brakes at all. HTH.

I have DBA slotted and drilled and turned them with no issues. I contacted DBA about turning and they gave me the OK.

Hey Phil, thanks for that I was wondering what mileage you have on em since they were turned? Any warpage issues? Do you think you'll turn em twice in their lifespan or just once and then replace? Thanks man.

Turbo - I had wrapage due to bad adjustment on the LSPV thats why I turned them(front). Since then I have about 10k on them with no issues. I have no problem turning them again and again until they are out of spec.

Has anyone done a back to back driving comparison of comparable 80s with DBA rotors vs. OEM rotors with the 100 series pads? The question of whether to upgrade rotors comes up a lot and it would be nice to have some objective data. I am very happy with oem front rotors anbd 100 pads after 10k, and I feel they stop the truck fine, but that's obviously totally subjective.

Hey Phil...What was the problem with your LSPV? Was it unavoidable?

I have some that I am just about to put on, just want to possibly avoid any bad situations.

Also another question for those of you with the DBA's. Someone told me today that you should turn the brand new rotors, just incase they are warped. It sounded like a bunch of crap to me. But help me not freak out too much.
Thanks

It was not adjusted properly ...Very little rear brakes + heavy 80 = wrapped front rotors.

Personally I always have new rotors true up. So far I have not found a new rotor that is perfect.

Hey, any of you running the DBA's use them in the dirt and sand? I have done a little searching on new rotors here and have read some posts about getting pebbles stuck in the drilled holes and then these pebbles wearing grooves in the pads. Have any of you had this issue? I have been thinking about getting the DBA's, but I spend quite a bit of time in the dirt. Thanks

I have installed on the front brakes Slee DBAs. They are slotted only - not drilled.

They made an obvious difference with first use. I love 'em and woud not go back to stock. :D

I have the DBAs that are slotted only. They work great. A friend who had the drilled ones picked up a rock and it made a terrible sound against the backing plate. I would just get OEM and forget these issues.
