pads are gone and don't want to waste my time turning the OEM rotors (90K miles). Thinking about going with the cross-slotted 'club spec' front and Long Lasting CS rears in conjunction with the ceramic pads for improved braking when towing. Anyone have this setup or other recommendations?
In my searches, I see yomama uses the drilled and cross-slotted dba's but I'll assume its normal pads since he never mentions having ceramic pads. I'm leery about 'drilled' rotors so I won't be going that route but I wonder about the pads. Are they worth the money?

Thx,
WET

drilled rotors are ok except under conditions when they will build extreme heat...if they get too hot they will crack along the spots where they were drilled at...slotted rotors are much better at dealing with heat as they will not crack when they get hot....i would use a good set of pads like te DPA's or go with the larger 100 series pads...i am ordering a set next week for my 97

I also remember reading where drilled rotors were not recommended with off-roading as small rocks could lodge in the holes and kill a set of pads instantly. Don't know if slotted would have any of the same issues?

FWIW, on my wifes 2001 Maxima, I put slotted rotors on and ceramic pads and noticed a huge improvement! And if anyone thinks that the 80's rotors are crap...check out maxima.org and all the rotor problems they have on there. The braking vibration was so bad I had to change our rotors out at 36K and should have done them at about 30K. There are guys that have had their rotors replaced under warrenty 3 and 4 times....all under 36K.

Oh...that last part was free! :D

I've looked and haven't found any sloted only rotors for an 80...I'm sure they are out there. Sloted are the best to use in any aplication hands down! Cross drilled is hyped out of hand and work the same as sloted but cool alittle better. I would stay away from cross drilled because...yes they crack...yes they warp easy...yes rocks can get in the holes, gravel and sand comes to mind.

I just bought new plain rotors from Napa...cheap $80 with tax for two fronts and I got their ceramic front 100 series pads for around $45.

I recommend OEM rotors and 100 series pads from Cruiserdan. Thats what I did at least. Look at it this way, they are sure to last you at least another 90K miles!. Might consider a front axle rebuild as you will be halfway there doing your rotor slop, unless it was done in the last 50K miles.

I got sloted dba rotors in front with ceramic pads and braking is awesome. I dont tow much so i dont know how that would work for ya, but on a dry summer day, i can kick abs on with a brake stand no problem. The pads I used were akebono or somethin like that. I have about 10k on the brakes and there is no visible wear on them. worth it in my opinion

Thx all for the input. Its a little more assuring knowing that someones already tried them out and didn't have any 'surprises'. I'll admit, they are a bit pricey though.
