Dang HOA...

with the move to fort Mill, We've been looking at all sorts of houses. Some in the country. some in the city limits. We looked at one house that had about 6' of driveway leading to a small two-car garage and the hoa says you can't park on the street. Dues in that neighborhood are $860 a year.

Another sub. had dues that were a little cheaper...$720/year. I can't hang plants on my front porch w/o permission. I can't change my oil in the driveway (and we all know what a mess an F engine can make), etc.

So...we're gonna build.

What ever you do make sure it's near someone with a big dead tree in their back yard.;)

I know, right? F that mess.

Way to go Steve. As an Eagle Scout, I would expect that you would get on the board

HOA's suck. When we were looking for a house I told the realator that if the hoa rules were more than 3 sentences long dont even bother showing it to me. Nazi's in most of the self important sd's around here are crazy. example. Garage door canot be left open for more than 15 minutes, cant plant anything in your yard without approval,no maintaining of your cars in your own driveway, no fences over 4 feet, house colors have to be approved, no more than 2 pets, restrictions on outside lighting, and when you build you have to spend a minimum percentage of the value on landscaping. How would you feel if you bought a 300,000 house and were told you cant paint it the color you want oh and by the way you have to have an irrigation system and spend 12,000 on landscaping before you are "allowed" to move in. Not to mention dues over a grand a year.

Sorry Juice, Eagle Scout hijack...

I'm an Eagle Scout too! Congrats to you! What year? Still involved in Scouting?

I don't know if I'm doing a 'good deed' or 'stirring the pot'... I think a little of both.

My SD is nowhere near that. I would not buy my house until I approved of the covenants. What I'm working towards is my SD not becoming like what you speak of...thats nuts.

Good fences make good neighbors. Trip wires and cocertina wire make GREAT neighbors.

Hmmmm....I might have you coordinate the 'disappearance' of a few fluffy white dogs...

1996 - not really involved now. I've thought about helping out with a Troop but I need to find the time.

Agree 100%

Steve, you can find the time if you want too.
I've been Scoutmaster for 18 years; you find the time to do the things you really want to do.
(Like become President of LLC) LOL

LLC?

Well I'm on the HOA Board now and am probably running for VP in conjunction with my neighbor who will be running for Pres in a few to six months.

I need to get in contact with the local troop.

Hey Josh - I'm sure you have a database somewhere that will tell you where the local troop around Travelers Rest is!

WOW! 18 years is a long time to be a Scoutmaster! Thanks for all your hard work!

Well, when I was working at the Blue Ridge Council I had that info. Give them a call: 864-233-8363. They'll set you up. And, contrary to popular belief, there are volunteer positions that do not take up all of your time. And, in most districts, those are the postions that are in need. If nothing else, consider helping with your local Friends of Scouting campaign. Or, just buy some popcorn! The Kettle Corn is awsome!
