Well, I have a problem. The output shaft on my Saginaw steering box has been stripped. Is there a way to pull and replace only that part. I see there is a pin near the end, but I have found no information regarding that part and that part alone.

I know....Who is the idiot who did that damage? Well, me and the PO, who installed the set up to begin with.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance,
Woody

That's the input shaft and it's done. Take the whole box into a parts store as a core and get a different rebuilt one. 68 Impala steering box should do it.

Drew is correct.

Purchase a new power steering gear and be done with it.

Ha, Ha. I guess that would be the input shaft. Good thing I posted photos.

I was afraid you guys would say that.

Thanks,
Woody

At least you did not ask about how to weld a coupler to that input shaft and not damage the input seal.

A truck was in the shop a few years ago with exactly that.

Yeah, the PO had poor alignment on the steering shaft and actually poor mounting on the steering box, too. The box sits a little high, causing the steering shaft to come in at an angle around the shock tower. This angle makes it so the rag joint will not sit flushly mounted on the input shaft of the box.

I think I am going to add something like a Borgeson Vibration Reducer/U-Joint Combination in place of the rag joint. This should take the place of the rag joint and solve the angle problem.

Good or bad idea? Other solutions, short of redoing the entire setup. The PO butchered the original steering column, cutting and welding up his own steering shaft. All is ok from the interior side, but from the firewall to the steering box it is his making.

So welding it would be bad? LOL
How about soldering it? LOL
