2021 | DAKAR RALLY | TOYOTA GAZOO Racing

I saw the Hilux, but not the LC. The race looks brutal.

Several years back we had someone in this section that was affiliated with the Toyota Auto Body team (I think). Lots of great fly on the wall pics of that team, very similar to what we are getting with Canguro Racing.

Really enjoyed seeing updates from both teams, glad we still get to hear about Monica.

I've gone down this rabbit hole too looking for technical details. There's not a lot of content out there. More details about the racers (which is cool), but not much about the LC. As this is production class, I don't assume there to be huge modifications or changes, other than typical racing gear and safety items. Does look like a diesel LC200 which is cool.

Someone suggested it was modified with independent rear, and while I couldn't find explicit pics, I doubt it. Does look to have some sort of dust/sand shield hiding (protecting?) the rear bits.

Watch enough of the videos and a picture emerges.

*Yes 1VD, mated to at least for some years a manual transmission. I forgot to look for a manual transfer selector but assume that is what it has for simplicity/reliability.
*Solid rear axle with an additional shock per side, and yes large gravel shields to keep that stuff out of the rear springs/links.
*Additional shock per side in front as well.
*No KDSS.
*Seems to he running a body lift, but I’m not sure.
*Obviously a cage, dual spares inside the rear, and I imagine a fair number of tools and safety gear.
*285/70R17 BFG KM/KM2s on what seem to be custom enkei wheels. Assuming forged and very strong. I’d like to get an offset.. but understand that will be tough to track down. I’m thinking the evo corse Dakar zero is meant to be a substitute for this wheel.
*From watching it in action, it must have a front locker, I assume selectable. Some tight stuff clearly had the front tires locked together. Selectable locker in rear seems obvious.
*No winch, only strong tow hooks modified to be further up in the center of the front bumper.
*Mishmash of other stock parts. Non-blinker mirrors, as one small example.

I went down a YouTube rabbit hole recently watching past years LC footage, and was thinking it would be interesting to see the technical differences between this and Monica listed, if we know them.

Any input @cruiseroutfit ?

I have quite a few pics of the inside of that truck. (or the other one) We were able to get into the Bivouac in Peru and chat with the team a little bit in their pit. Our lack of Japanese made it difficult. We also talked with them out on course one day as they were fixing a flat. Let me see what I can dig up. @bloc nailed most of it. The manual trans being the biggest non-stock mod.

this is what I had handy. Including @cruiseroutfit helping with the tire chage. I have few from Saudi last year too but they were racing shots so not much detail. I'll see what else I can find after work.

Eco Corse wheels on it.....like suggested above.
Some of them.. is enkei interchangeable with evo?
Also saw they were on STT pros vs the BFGs from some other years.

If they’re the same offset and size I would imagine they are?

I meant are Evo built by Enkei or something?

Kurt clearly has an Evo Corse, but the other wheels seem different. I didn't think DakarZeros were forged, but I'd assume their front-line wheel for a race of this type would be. Unless there is some advantage to a cast wheel like the Evos that I'm not aware of.

Update - doesn't look like our beloved 200 is doing so well (if I'm reading this correctly?). Numbers 340 and 345, at least no withdrawals!

They look like they are 1st and 2nd in their class.

OK, In think I see what you are seeing. I was looking at the general and stage ranking, but that must be for all entrants?

Love seeing the pics and getting details of these racing 200’s. Aside from the twin shocks per wheel, this one appears to have similar factory specs to my LC. You can still purchase a VDJ200 with a manual gearbox. Mine is a 2017 variant from Toyota Gibraltar, and they still sell them there as an LC 200 GX/GXR. You can get them with the TTD V8 or the petrol V6 mated to a manual gearbox.

Cool shot. Brings back memories. Rally racing is so much fun!

Also a cool shot of the skid plate. I wonder what the structure to the outside near the LCA is for? I can't see it well enough to provide an educated guess. Maybe to protect the LCA pivots/mounts?

I'd also love a close up of the rear trailing arms. They look interesting.
