I'm well aware that TLC isn't your ideal daily driver… but I just want to know if any do drive theirs as a daily and how is it??

Thinking about purchase a 100 series LC...

Been asked before....

Search is your friend.

Short answer: YES.

The 100 is one of the best DD. It's safe, comfortable, well equipped, won't leave you stranded in a snow storm, you can take the path not taken, and it's a good looking vehicle. Mine is NOT setup to be a DD, however it is. It does it very well.

Just put aside a couple hundred dollars a week for gas :)

I have been commuting with mine for a long time. Not too far, about 12 miles a day.

No daily for me. I have a 335 for those duties with a 6mt that is way more fun to drive and gets better milage. However, Houston roads have claimed 5 wheels on that car.

I too rock a 335 with 6mt/ZSP, but the BMW is the garage queen and the LX is the DD. :D

The gas is really the only downside. I would love for mine to be a DD, but I baby it a bit too much

Absolutely positively don't make a decision NOT to buy an LC because you don't think you can make it your DD. In 2004, I had the chance to buy a BMW(new) or a used 80 series with 100k miles. I bought the BMW and regretted it. Too expensive to operate, too many major repairs and not reliable. Looking back, the LC would have been a better investment and without question, more reliable.

I've had my LC for a year and even though it's not my DD, I drive it when the weather is bad or when I fear traffic will bite me. It was invaluable during the last snow/ice storms in Texas. Last weekend, I took it up an embankment when a road was closed and I'm certain it saved me 30 minutes of commute. It's hard to appreciate the sheer utilitarian value until you drive it daily.

The only real reason I hesitate to drive my LC more to work is because I work in some questionable neighborhoods and I like to drive my old junker volvo so as not to attract unwanted attention.

what do y'all think about this one?

I'm not an expert on this one, but I would suggest:

1)Rust
2) Oil leaks. Anywhere in the engine or underneath.
3) Evidence of body work.

Not necessarily in that order.

Nice to see some BMW guys on here. My wife daily drives our LX 470. Even with a 1.5" OME and 305/65/18 tires, ride is still great and gas mileage is acceptable at around 16mpg. Bought it at 110k and its already up to 144k in under 2 years. Great all around vehicle that is safe and good in all conditions, even with 7 passengers!

Still cheaper (per mile) to drive than my M3 or the 80 based on tires alone. Gas mileage is slightly better than the M3 and much better than the 80. Cant wait until she gets something new and I get her 100 as a DD.

The only thing expensive about these rigs is gas.
However the MOST expensive component of any car ownership is depreciation.
So if you compare our rigs to buying a high MPG new car these are actually cheaper to own.
This is true of many used cars, but you need to buy a car you like to keep.

The previos owner got hit with the depreciation of my LX, he bought it new and only put 63k miles on it then sold it for $18k bought it new for $58k, ouch!

$40k buys a lot of gas!

Looks like no one told me my LX is not an "ideal" daily driver. :whoops::censor:

What's the issue?? Mileage?...obviously. She's a V8 and weighs 2-1/2 tons unloaded.

Comfort? No issues there either off-road or blowing down the highway.

Safety?. No problems there.

Steve.

Why wouldn't you want to drive one of the safest and most comfortable, not to mention capable, vehicles on the planet on a daily basis?

This. This x10.

And Gas is a marginal expenditure. You aren't going to not buy gas, it's just a difference in incremental expense.
