I've seen several available online, but they all look cheesy or under rated for weight of our rigs. Can anyone suggest a rear bumper bolt on shackle mount they've used successfully and trust? Mud vendors that sell them? I currently have a hitch receiver shackle slide in and I want to eliminate the hitch all together and use the 4 bolt holes Mr T made available to us. Any suggestions, thoughts, tricks, tips, advice...

Edit: For the rear factory cross member

Why not just use the built in tow points?

I wouldn't use that as a recovery point. Using a shackle with a 4.5t WLL you will severely be limited by the cross member's strength. My opinion only....others may disagree.

Slap a pintle hook on there, then you won't even need a shackle. I have bent my rear member though, but beat it back with the backside of a maul. I have a nwti bumper on there now though that reinforces the rear member and I have not been able to bend it yet.

There's been plenty of failures of the factory tie down points.

Either the welded loop failing, or bolts shearing off at the chassis, or bolts pulling out of weld nuts in the frame.

Use them at your own risk.

Have there really been failures? I've used these and, others, have for lots of extractions. I could see,the pintle point failing but the tow hooks are in shear which I just can't see happening.

A 3/4" shackle has WORKING load limit of 4.5 or 4.7 tons (depending on source of info), but that is with a safety of 6 or more. Winch cable/rope is typically given as breaking strength (and usually less than double the winch stall rating). A common 12K winch cable will have a breaking strength around 17-18K lbs. A 3/4" shackle has a typical breaking strength over 24K lbs.
...but you're certainly right that the cross member may be a bad place to put a 12,000 pound stress. Towing a 12,000 pound trailer doesn't put anywhere NEAR 12,000 pounds of load on the cross member. Oscar's post about bending his cross member has me thinking I should dump my plan to get a shackle mount. (...and I'd just been searching last night, when I saw the one I posted above.)

If you're buying a mount, why not buy the right one? The pintle hook is what you should buy for towing a trailer with a loop. A shackle is a better choice if you want to attach a strap or winch rope.

My 80 had the aftermarket hitch added when I bought it, and it looks like it mounts where the factory loops used to be. I may upgrade to the Tundra points for the rear, which is what I have in front and use a bridle to even out the load, or I may add a plate too, and have options, depending on the angle. I just don't like the hitch, even though where it is mounted would be strong in recovery. I'd prefer to have departure angle back to stock. I've hit the hitch too many times, and I'm never gonna tow with the 80.

No way, I am with you @Kaninja that is not a recovery point, you should have 2 up front and 2 in the rear
