Anyone running a cyclonic pre-cleaner vs. the standard Safari scoop on their snorkel? Overkill?

Obviously saw them in the military all the time, but that was 90-100% desert.

I don’t encounter much dust in the SE/E, but do hit dusty trails in the SW/W.

I think it'd be an awesome upgrade for when you are in those environments. Even if you only popped it on when you have specific plans to be in a very dusty environment. I was in Maob the last couple of weeks and needed to do frequent filter cleaning and swaps. I thought a lot about the difference a snorkel with a cyclone pre cleaner could make.

Thank you sir! Much appreciated.

I’m going to try this “Air on Board” 150x100mm pre-filter sock ($15) that fits the ARB Safari snorkel and see how it goes on dusty roads before taking the plunge on the cyclonic.

Worst case scenario it blows off and I’m out a few bucks, lol.

I have this pre cleaner and have been really happy with the dust performance. I recently had an oil and fluids service at a shop known for replacing every little thing, and they noted my air filter looked brand new - even though I had recently completed 2 multi day wheeling trips.

A couple things observations - the pre cleaner makes a bit of intake noise because it spins, so when the window is rolled down it’s noticeable. It seems mpg dropped slightly over the ARB snorkel head - maybe 0.5-1 mpg. Overall the benefits outweigh the downsides if actually used for dusty environments. I only use the Land Cruiser for off road trips, so for me it’s worth it.

Thank you for the insight!

I’m primarily in the SE where dust isn’t an issue.

I run an AEM dry filter which doesn’t hurt my MPGs and did not harm my oil analysis vs stock paper after two checks.

I’ll share what happens with the $15 AoB pre filter sock when we hit dust/dirt roads enroute to Montana.

My goal is to run it and enjoy it—while exercising reasonable precautions and preventive maintenance.

I experienced first hand the benefit of running the Sy-Klone. Last summer my buddy and I did the Dempster and a bunch of remote travel in Alaska. We both run the Safari snorkel. I have the pre-cleaner and he is running the stock scoop.
We both started the trip with brand new air filters. After we had completed the Dempster and were about half way through doing Top of the World, his truck started to lose power. We stopped to check things out and opened the airbox. His filter was absolutely packed solid with dirt. Thought it would be good to check mine and found that it looked nearly brand new. We cleaned his the best we could and bought a new one in Palmer. He added the pre-cleaner after getting back from trip. :)
That experience sold me on the absolute benefit of the pre-cleaner.

do
Do you have any photos ? I have been offroading in seriously dusty areas and being anti snorkel really am considering it

In Africa I feel the 200 has oem snorkel - are we able to buy those ?

I am running the oem snorkel with the cyclone mushroom on my 200.

So in my case it wasn’t something I choose since he came with that one in the trunk so for sure I mounted it.

Even on dusty and sandy trips (wich for sure are rare where I live hehe) there isn’t much dirt in the air box

But it charms the classic UN/NGO/Dark Africa- style of the 200 GX

Here you can see the parts. Probably you need to get the stuff down till 17752. For the diesel engines it should fit directly like a charm but for gasoline you maybe need to retrofit a bit since I don’t know where and how the airbox is located at these.
