Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere, I am quite a noob at searching on this site. I figured that there isn't (or hopefully there shouldn't be) a "guess, check, and revise," method for figuring out which snap ring fits on a CV Axle. The time has come to replace the CV Axle with a new OEM one and the seller says the Axle won't come with a clip. I looked on a Lexus parts Catalog (toyodiy.com) and it lists a host of C-clips (snap rings) ranging from T=2.8 to T=1.8 (in what I believe to be millimeters inches). So what I want to know is, how the F do I know which clip to buy? Do I measure the diameter of the axle at the end where it comes out the hub? Or....?
P.S.Is T=2.8 to T=1.8 the thickness of the rings or the internal or external diameter? Istg we need a dummies manual
Okay, so I figured that T=2.8 to 1.8 is the thickness of the rings in millimeters and it depends on the gap between the snap ring and the mouth of the flange.
