I usually order from 1st Toyota parts dot com

do they ship to canuckistan by usps without a tracking number? if so, i doubt they will do it for long.

If you had TLC do the work and not that hack place, this would not be the problem..................................

Actually the parts for the later 1HZ differ from the one in your rig Alex.

Bummer. :grinpimp: My pile is slowly getting installed.

Yeah with a tracking number
It works out to be considerably cheaper even if you get nailed on duty

which service is that? the only usps service with a tracking number that keeps going once the package gets into canuckistan i know is overnight. that costs $40 just to send an envelope.

oh man, that is so lucky!

I just did the water pump on mine. It's best to replace the cam seal at the same time... but you can get away without doing it. And while it seems like you have to remove the valve cover, you don't.

Loosening the upper timing belt cam wheel, you can use a large screw driver or prybar through the cam wheel and against the block to prevent it from moving... but i'd keep the timing belt on just in case while you are loosening the bolt.

and it's easiest to use a sharpie and mark your timing belt's direction and placement before removal.

thanks, yeah I don't want to mess with the timing belt. I am a 1HZ newb. I don't plan on taking it off but I'll mark it just in case.

I hope it's a bit warmer tomorrow. Single digits F today, not conducive to wrenching.

Timing belt has to be removed. Don't be afraid!

remove radiator fan and belts, loosen alternator.
Remove timing belt cover.
use large socket to turn engine till timing marks align and/or mark timing belt (i like a silver sharpie) for rotational direction and alignment to cams.
Remove tension spring. HINT: use a large phillips screwdriver.
Remove upper cam gear: hold gear with large screwdriver and use impact wrench to loosen nut. Will need a puller to get cam off.
now you can remove the upper tming belt aluminum plate thingie.
NOW you can remove the waterpump
Waterpump uses neat little compression gasket. you don't need RTV.

install in reverse order.
Hint for the timing belt tension spring: use one large phillips screwdriver, through the spring and put tip on the spring retainer stud... then use a large flat head to help slide the spring along the screwdriver till it pops onto the retainer stud.

Awesome, thanks! I'm doing this tomorrow if it's not horribly cold, so I have it all prepped for the new one when it arrives.

EDIT: does my 2004 engine have a tension spring? I guess I'll find out.

I believe 1HZ's from 98+ have the hydraulic tensioner, but I could be wrong.

I'm also not 100% on the T-Belt light reset procedure, but I know the light will go on every 100k or 150k depending on the truck the 1HZ came out of.

I've read that it will turn on at every service interval (regardless of when it was last reset) but have also read that it will turn on 100k from when last reset.

Not sure if that makes sense or not.

(my timing belt was just done before I bought mine, so I'm talking based solely on research )

I guess I'll have to RTFM.

beno do you think I should replace the timing belt at 70000km, since I have it off anyway?

Compared to other Toyota timing belts I have seen (UZJ/Camry/Tundra/4Runner), 70K km is probably still on the young side. But then again, you do not have intimate knowledge with this engine's history.

...Nor do you have really intimate 1HZ knowledge. ;) Getting to know the front end of your rig and the timing components/cover area might not be a bad thing, all things considered.

Then again, it's pretty damn cold where you are and I'm not sure I would want to be outside turning wrenches and busting knuckles.

Yeah my UZJ100 timing belt was replaced at 106K miles and it looks like new.

I'll already be outside turning wrenches and busting knuckles to replace the water pump and it sounds like I'll have the belt off.

Do you have them in stock? If so I can decide after I look at it later today; it's slowly warming up, 10° F so far...

Yes, I have the 1HZ timing belt in stock. 13568-19195

I do not have the tensioner or the ilder pulley in stock. Though the idler is probably ok and the tensioner at this mileage is probably ok too.
