It is possible to cut out the fluted glass part of the OEM headlamp and fit clear plastic but that requires a bit of skill. Then you could throw a HID projector inside.

I am in the red after xmas so I had to give up on my project, but what I'm trying to do is polish off the flutes on the headlights and install HID projectors. I promise I will report on this as soon as I have spare $60 to get the lights polished. I already have the lenses, HID ballasts and bulbs. If I fail (headlights crack while polishing), then I will buy the ebay stuff and try to fit it into my LX.

Ive seen them with a black background as well, which while looking a little nicer - these lights are still GARBAGE.
They use a "foglight" bulb in the projector...terrible light output on a low sedan....I imagine near NO light output at all on the higher headlight location of an 80, stock or lifted.
If you really want them, wait a year...they'll be even more available on ebay and sell for about $80.

I actually really like these, and am thinkin about gettin a pair (black) for my black 80. Itll look ill
If I were going to do a headlight assembly swap, the only thing I would consider is the Australian set-up with traditional rectangular lights; it would be different, and a burned/broken light is a quick, cheap, easy fix. Plus I think it looks
hmm Lx450 wheels, wonder if that was an upgrade wheel in other countries? dont think many in Aus woudl have easy acces to a US only wheel.
as for sealed beams they are cheap and quick but the light output stinks.
The LX450 wheels are pretty much available anywhere. There is no Lexus dealer here yet a lot of 80's are wearing them.
Lexus GX wheels are also a popular upgrade on Toyota Fortuners.
As for the headlamps. They're your call. But despite being clear, I still wouldn't slap an HID retrofit kit into them. If only to be corteous to other motorists.
Almost got into a fight here when a Honda Fit blinded the living sh*ts out of me as I was driving home. He was driving behind me in a traffic jam and I was getting a headache from his HID's. It would've been my pleasure to just slam on the brakes and rearrange the face of his Honda using my pintle hook.

Yes, OTEP, you are right. HIDs should only work in HID projectors. I think that to have the best of both worlds would be to buy those headlights and put HIDs inside. By putting HIDs I mean ballasts, bulbs and projectors.

I did see both versions(chrome & black) and the chrome looked much better IMO. I would only go black if I had a black vehicle but still think the chrome would still be nicer. Btw, that is snow here in SoCal. Weird weather we're having!

I have to admit I do like the look of the halo.
ditch the damage multiplier before it takes out your hood and fenders.

I'm not sure if you were talking to me but, yes, when I said HID retrofit, I meant HID retrofit including the HID projector, not an HID plug and play Kit.
NVR ENUF, did you use the same housing as the ones listed in the link posted by 96_cruiser.

Those wheels where only available in Australia with the 40th anniversary models, came standard with them on. Im trying to get a second spare one and its not easy, they are not very common and the price toyota want for 1 I could buy a complete aftermarket set
I have the black ones on mine which i think look awesome. I don't have the three little led lights hooked up, just the angel eyes and parking lamps but they were not plug and play but it was very simple to connect. They are so much brighter its amazing and I really like the look of the halos. The construction of the housing is actually pretty well designed.

I bought mine on ebay as well when they 1st came out and like Mot mentioned awhile back on another thread, these were most likely for the International version of the LC and not the NA LC's because the new housing itself fit nicely in replacing the OEM lights and everything was going smoothly and easily until I put that last piece of the puzzle on which was the grill. It overlapped the new housing by a 1/4" if that. So the grill did not mount to perfection as you will see in the upcoming pics. It's not that noticeable as not one person has brought it up but I know it's there! The new housing did come with nice plugs but since the OEM's don't, I couldn't use them anyhow as I just spliced off the plugs and piggytailed to the original wiring. The new lighting is brighter but not as bright as my PIAA driving lamps.
As you can see, the housing fit nicely in.
Side markers are much nicer than OEM. I should've replaced the bulbs to LED bulbs so it could've matched the bright white light the rest of the lights give.
Front view and you can see where the grill overlaps the housing just a smidge. Later on I'll shave a bit off the backside of the grill so it'll sit more flush and be practically unnoticeable.
A better view of the grill overlapping. I'm usually pretty anal about imperfections but this one really doesn't bother me and I know once I do mod the grill a bit, it should be just fine. Definitely ask the seller if the one you plan on buying is for North American LC's so you can have the perfect fit. Overall, the project was very simple and I'm definitely pleased with the new look it has given my rig. No regrets!
