I purchased a blank aluminum glove box door from Metal Tech ( http://www.metaltech4x4.com/p-706-fj40-blank-glove-box-door.aspx ) and a junked OEM glove box door to cannibalize parts from. I've seen quite a few rigs with custom glove box doors, so my question to those that have done it is how are you installing the glove box door? I'm not talking about transferring the pull the handle or the gear shifting instruction plate onto the custom door, what I'm beating my head up against the wall with is the hinge, the piece on the door that the limiting cable attaches to, and the raised area that the latch bolts up to. All three of those pieces appear to be welded onto the OEM door, so any insight or suggestions would be really appreciated.

I also got a nicely made glove door blank I got from trailcandy. It's thick enough that I was planning on carefully drill and tapping holes and than use piano hinge to mount it to the body. Or you could epoxy the old hinge to the blank with JB weld or something stronger.

As far as a latch I was going to use a push lock like Tuffy center counsels have. Very similar to what Icon uses on their trucks.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tired drilling out the welds, but those pieces are really fused to the door. I think I'm going to have to get creative if I'm going to be able to make this aluminum door work.

Is your end goal to have a replacement stock door? Or are you doing something special? Getting a used replacement seems much easier, though I don't really know what a pocket door goes for..

I already have an aluminum gauge cluster and switch panel, so I'm trying to keep the dash uniform in appearance with a matching glove box door. The short answer - trying to do something special.
