Single flared brake line
Is this an age thing, as in all vehicles after 19XX need to have them, or just that new replacements are double flared?

My Euro trash only has single flared lines, some of which I made , but it is a dual circuit system. Either way, good to know if I need to start making brake lines for the truck.

Don't know @sneaky - this was all I could find and it's NSW.

Got the swivel hubs all buttoned up and was feeling pretty chuffed. Until I spoke to cat and he informed me I needed high tensile wire for the brake backing plate retaining bolts. Hopefully I can just pull the drum and slide it through now I've aligned all the holes. Also got all my tie-rods cleaned and new ends in, pulled down and greased the pivot in the front frame rail, adjusted the steering box, gave her a home toe in [1/4''] and FEWA. Probably take it to a shop when it's mobile again.

Then started to pull everything for the donk swap.

These are the two bell-housings I've got. The alloy one is a Dellow and utilises the factory mounts, clutch fork/pivot/slave [albeit relocated to DS]. The steel one is home made from 6mm plate but has no access to the fork/pivot/bearing from outside. Also utilises stock components relocated to DS. Both were free as was the spare J30 [although they broke the transfer selector mount from the front snout of the t'fer during removal]. Still, a free three speed. But not sure which to use? Either way there's gonna be dramas, as my 'bolt in' kit has a bell housing 20mm shorter than stock and a motor than no longer fits in the recess of the firewall..

Cult what's the plan mate cut the firewall or go a later box with cross member and modified tail shafts. There's a mob state side who sells a overdrive box that slips between the engine and bell housing but that would be $2000 to $2500 landed in OZ.

Well oz me old there'll be no firewall cutting. I've tee'd up a spare trans tunnel and I'm gonna send it all forward with new shafts. All I'll have to do is cut a shifter hole - I think. Up in sunny Cairns at the moment so this'll all have to happen when I get back.

Thanks oz but think I found a solution.

Are 3 speed and 4 speed input shafts the same splinage??

@west aussie - what's this 49mm business?? I measured mine and they came in at 50mm. I've also heard of 52mm and 54mm..? Which is it?

Old question but ... anyway

Course spline axles (early) is 50mm and fine spline (late) is 54mm

Fine spline as in 1990+?

Does anyone know if an early wheel will fit on a later column? Early wheel as in late 60's and later column as in with type with the plastic shroud and the key in it.

Fine spline as in 1990+?

As in Sept 1975 onwards.

Here's a photo of the fine ones on my 1979:

Earlier than that the spline count was just 6 I think...

Ah, thanks Tom. There's a few changeover years in Mr. Toyoda's history, and I'm a bit surprised I didn't even consider 1975. Damn!

New plans afoot! Still two-flies, still the flea, still all driven through the three. But no shaft cutting, no moving of gearboxes and no belting of firewalls. Going to see a man about a dog tomorrow. Stay tuned!

There's a Landcruiser Facebook page I'm a member of [actually about six ha ha] and this weekend they organised a week-long trip to Fraser Island. It was my first trip. It's a three hour drive from Bris-bayne to the ferry, then it's all beach work from then on. Fraser is the largest sand island in the world, and natural wonder. It's been very well looked after by conservationists [useful for once] and as such is a top place to visit. I think it's on most people's bucket list. There's an insane amount of wildlife: dingoes, snakes, whales off- shore and all manner of Aussie animals. Also stunning greenery and it's just generally a mostly untouched paradise [Fraser Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia].

A few months prior Peter [84TROOPY] and I decided to go, and as my 45 still needs a donk we took his HJ47 troopy. Sneaky was gonna come but had other commitments. Maybe next time. For us the trip was short but we had a blast. You could stay a week and still not see it all. Anyway, enough sh!te, I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Friday night beers at Inskip Pt. before we head off early the next morning..

Artistic boots around the gas light shot.

Five of the twelve 40's that came. Pete's troopy #2.

IMG_2631.JPG

Pete's troopy; an '83 HJ47 owned by Richard Rose w/2H, H41, turbo, discs and 60 series power steer; a 1975 HJ45 w/H, H41, stacks, full glass body and soft top doors owned by Bart Gibson. The thing flies - got no weight in it.

IMG_2633.jpg

The silver HJ47 with the green P-plates belongs to a 20 y.o fella named Daniel Horne. Great fella. 12H-T, 40 power steer, discs, lockers, moves. Full glass body too. The matte grey 1981 FJ45 [w/early bezel] is owned by Shane Cass who runs the Facebook page that organise the trip. 2F, H55, 60 series power steer, discs, a/c to come, styleside tray and tinny on top.

On the barge nearing Fraser.

IMG_2634.JPG

Me n' Pete's setup. His HJ47 troopy was a champ the whole way! Never got hot, never got stuck, nothing. Just a dream find. It tracks so straight it's unbelievable. 1984 HJ47, ex-Telecom surveyors truck, 11 seat, discs, factory air.

IMG_2636.JPG

Richard's HJ47 again.

IMG_2637.JPG

John Whitlock's 1979 HJ45 troopy. H motor, H41, drums, 11 seat, trimmed, stereoed, bar'd. Damn that thing can carry some tonnage!

IMG_2638.JPG

Adam Jones's 1979 HJ45 w/turbo 2H, H55, discs, 60 power steer and soon to be on-board air. Super clean truck.

IMG_2639.JPG

Bart Gibson's 1975 HJ45 w/H, H41 and all glass body. The power-to-weight in this thing is unbelievable.

IMG_2640.JPG

Paul Read's 1981 HJ47 w/turbo 2H, H41 [H55 to come], baby booster, discs, 40 power steer half installed, cold a/c and the wrong plates.

IMG_2643.JPG

Craig Keen's 1967 FJ40 w/2F, H55, discs, 40 power steer, with later panels. Goes hard!

IMG_2644.JPG

Brent Dengate's 1984 HJ47 w/2H, H41, discs and trail-installed clutch master and slave. The lads brought spares! Brent drove all the way up from Sydney with his old man on a lil father and son trip. Good guys both. The swing out tyre carrier is ace!

IMG_2645.JPG

Daniel Horne's HJ47 w/12H-T again. Damn that thing runs like a Mack.

And here's the whole fleet except two: Bambi Girl's mint 1982 FJ40 LX w/everything and Bart's grey HJ45 with the bonnet scoop. Not sure what happened to him but he didn't turn up! Also in this pic are some guys that camped elsewhere or turned up late: the beige FJ40 that's sixth from the left is Ben Keen's and has an Aussie 308 cui Holden V8, H55, discs, 40 power steer and a massive track thanks to 33 x 12.5's on some crazy -ve offset. The red 1984 [?] FJ45 next to him sports a 350, TH400, discs, steer and an extra big rad that doesn't quite work yet. Sounds balls-out tough though. The second last truck is a 1983 BJ40 w/3B, discs, steer, H41 and Thomas PTO. Great little truck. Anyway, that's it! Enjoy the pics!
