Meeting Notes
First Time Guests & New Members
· Jerry & Charlotte
o Jerry and Charlotte own a 1972 baby blue FJ40, which originally belonged to his uncle who bought it new from Fort Sumner NM. His uncle gave it to his grandson (Jerry’s 2nd cousin) who then made a deal with Jerry that if he restored the FJ40 he could drive it until he dies, then it goes back to the cousin. He had it restored in Mexico and tried to keep as much original as he could by repairing rather than replacing items. The engine was rebuilt, they patched holes in the radiator and gas tank, etc.; this is the original color (repainted); Charlotte drives a 4Runner. Jerry & Charlotte found out about the club from the business card @Abigail left on their truck.
· Ethan @nomadsurfer
o Ethan owns a 1990 FJ62 red with 154k miles; his dad was the original owner and passed it on to him; the truck was originally bought in San Diego. His first tuck was an FJ55, which he drove all through high school, back in the ‘80s, and he has been addicted since that point. Starting to mod it out now; mods so far: bumpers, lots of cool inside mod type stuff, LED lights interior, small lift but needs new suspension soon; has original paint.
· Jeff @AZRed
o Jeff owns a 2002 UZJ100 with 225k miles, thundercloud silver. He’s owned it for about 4 months, and it is pretty much stock except for the LCP mud flap eliminators and having removed the running boards; he’s getting ideas about what he wants mod next.
· James @D1EZEL
o James owns a 2003 UZJ100, which he found about half-built on eBay for $18,000 in Houston, TX; the truck has Slee front bumper, 4x4labs rear bumper, has been re-geared, and has a lot of other mods.
· Josh & Kelly @jdayment
o Josh and Kelly own an FJ80, an LX470, and have FJ60 which they didn’t bring to the meeting. They brought their pups: Max, Charlie and Ron. Kelly was into was Land Cruisers first before they were married (she had the ’60). Josh didn’t really know anything about them before but then he went to Iraq and realized they’re awesome. The 60 has driven across the country 4-5 times. The story of the ’60: Kelly’s dad bought her mom an FJ60 when Kelly was born; since then her dad passed away and left her a little money so she bought another FJ60 in his memory; the truck is named Bob after her dad. Josh is learning to love it. They bought the FJ80 to go to Africa (originated in Guam and was in Panama for a few years, then they took it to Bali, West Africa for 2 years). They spent 2 years in Africa because Josh was working out of the US Embassy. Recently bought the LX470 2001 with 310k miles (black).
· Andrew @AndrewP
o Andrew owns a white 2013 URJ200 with 48k miles, which he bought two days ago. He’s ordered sliders already and some other things, so he’s excited about continuing to add to it.
· Brian @Cactuscrzr
o Brian has been a longtime member and mud poster, but this was his first time attending a meeting. He has a white FJ80, which used to belong to Marcus. He used to have a 2006 Tundra before, and his wife didn’t like the Land Cruiser at first but now it’s grown on her. He has repainted it, bought some heavy-duty slides, and is planning to build a drawer system. He went on the Red Creek run and had a pretty easy time on that run compared to everyone else (due to his massive tires.)
Run of the Month
· August – @ftbshop led August ROTM: Smiley Rock 8/26/17 up around Jerome, AZ. There were 11 trucks on this run, it was quite a difficult and technical run, not stocker friendly, but fun!
· September – @yjeff is leading Sept 23, 2017 ROTM to Sheeps Bridge - Baywatch Edition (Beach day) next weekend, some people may camp if the weather is cool enough, but it's a very doable day trip. The water flow has been pretty low lately, and as long as flow is under 400cfs it will be easy; the flow right now should be around 100cfs, so nobody should have any problems. May be able to cross under the bridge depending on the conditions. This run is a really cool place for fishing and just hanging out, swimming, etc. Jeff plans to pre-run this trail on Sunday, so he will report back about that. This is a stocker friendly event and first-timers are encouraged to attend!
· October – @brices123 is leading October ROTM - Casner Trail & Camping . The trail is limited to 10 vehicles and there’s only 1 spot left. Sometimes people are kind and will give up their reserved spot if they’ve already gone before. Each time we’ve done this event there have been tons of vehicles camping even if they don’t get to run the trail. The camp spot is really beautiful overlooking Sedona off the north rim. Some people are planning to head up on Friday night and do two nights of camping. This is a stocker friendly run. The last two times we’ve had this event, there has been a massive potluck and everyone had a bunch of fun stuffing themselves on 30lbs of carne asada and pollo asada.
· Other – Rocky Point Sandy Beach Invitation - Oct 7-12, 2017 @yjeff is going to Rocky Point, Mexico and there’s an open invitation for anyone else wanting to go down at that time to tag along. Mexico is always a cool time. @LandCruiserPhil may be heading down at the same time and camping at the beach; @yjeff and @Chrismanjs have spots reserved at The Reef RV park. There are some special considerations like passport/passport card and Mexico insurance that you need to be aware of, so check out the thread for more information.
· November – Tentative run maybe organized by @Wilma83 between Phoenix and Tucson? TBD.
New Business
· CSC Christmas party – We will now have a committee to organize the CSC Christmas Party, and @Abigail has been generously volunteered by Phil to head the committee; anyone interested in helping to manage and plan this event, contact her (or she may just recruit you, aka @Dimples). A couple of years ago we had the party at Don’s but he nearly killed himself preparing and managing everything. @brices123 has offered his house as a location, and Don also seems willing to let us use his place again. We will aim to have this event early in December before people get too wrapped up in the Holidays (pun intended).
· Camelback Toyota Annual Show N Shine Event - This event will be sometime in November, date and other details to come! Thanks to @murf for twisting Management’s arm to make this happen every year!
