I just read the other day that Zuckerberg's Net worth is 30 billion! ....dang....

Ive never facebook'd but somebody's using it ;) I shouldve gotten in on the ground floor - haha

The icon 'opening a can of worms' was used to indicate I was doing that by dissing Facebook; never did I claim to be one, lmao.

What's funny to me is just how important the "like" button is for everyone on facebook. Kid's are spending hours a day spamming 'likes' for large companies all for the illusion of fame (if the number of likes on their facebook page reaches a few hundred thousand Nike might send them a pair of new runners). It's really sad that a person's ego is dependent on the number of likes they get; I get the impression there's a serious problem in their future - just like those kids shooting up theaters or knifing fellow students because their Facebook pages don't have 10,000 likes.

Anyway - then again, a lot of people collected Pet Rocks and they all thought I was crazy for not owning one. I also don't have an iPhone or iPad or iTouch or iAnything. Just not into fads. Though at least the iThings have some usefulness besides the ego boost - but it's on the level of why many men buy BMW's to make themselves feel better.

I tried Facebook out in it's infancy - found almost zero value in it except an ego boost when someone 'liked' me. But after a while I found it to be very invasive into people's privacy; in one case it even found a virtual machine on it's own secure sub-net that I was using inside a dual-level secure firewall and Facebook's tokens somehow linked that machine to my personal Facebook account and a pop-up requested if I'd like to add it to my list of 'included' machines (whatever that meant). I was working with VMWare and Server2008R2/Cisco routing security at the time.

Anyway - after that incident I wiped my Facebook account the best I could, requested they delete anything I couldn't delete myself, even changing all my host files to remove Facebook from ever tracking me (a requirement to have Facebook actually remove the account). So for six months I had to suffer all the broken services and links embedded in just about every web page in the world that uses Facebook servers to track you.

Anyway - my dislike of Facebook has a basis most people wouldn't understand (or don't care about). But many really don't care to worry about NSA tracking, either. The typical answer 'What's the harm, I have nothing to hide.' is so common it's laughable. Cars today can track you - and if you go onto some private property you aren't aware of your car's database info can be used to prosecute you for that trespass; even used to prosecute you for violation of traffic laws like speed limits. After all, the law doesn't require you be stopped by an officer to be cited (think speed cams that send the citation in the mail). Only now it can be done via satellite.

Small steps... and even a frog will let itself boil to death.

Sorry couldn't help myself, just seems a little ironic to make the statement on a social forum you are too old-fashioned to use a social forum.
