Once I get the flywheel and pressure plate bolts they should be able to balance everything and we'll be done there

So this might be the longest engine rebuild ever, not a problem though, my current motor is running just fine, almost a shame to pull it although it will most certainly live on in another project.

Matt, What is the steel bar in the bottom pic?

Is your engine block at home? If so could you look at the freeze plug on the back of the block and tell me if it would be covered by the bell housing?

A friend of mine has a freeze plug leak above the bell housing (not the head freeze plug) and it would give us a better idea what we're in for if it's going to be a straight shot replacement or a pull the bell housing job.

Thanks for the pic. It looks like this freeze plug may not be covered by the bell housing and we might luck out.

I should note the 3fe/a440f combo doesn't have a bellhousing, the bellhousing/transmission is one part, there's a plate between it and the engine.

No overdrive anymore, oh well.
 
Started putting the engine together tonight. Was only out there for a few minutes, got the piston/rod assemblies put together and the crank in, still need to plasti-gauge it.

I also finished rebuilding my early 60 rear driveshaft (in bling-bling silver), ordered clutch line and some boots from JT Outfitters and am getting the last few parts I need from Mellow Man tomorrow morning, transmission swap should happen in the next week as soon as this piece is done hogging the lift!

Crank and pistons are in, can is going in later tonight. Every bearing gets some Joe Gibbs assembly grease, zinc-rich, and will be run with zinc additive, similar to oil composition 30 years ago.

Cam and cover are on, the head should be bolted down before lunch time tomorrow.
