Cruiser Gets Smashed

You might consider parting the truck yourself. You can get an unlocked 80 and put your diff's in. The front is probably ok even if the housing is bent. You need to service the axles in the replacement anyway.
If you lack space, maybe a friend here can help? Trade parts for space or ?? You would need to dispose of parts pretty promptly. On MUD that should not be a problem.
You can buy back a total for a price. That's how I got mine after Bro Rob rolled it over.
Parts are widely needed on MUD. Given the situation, you are in a position to apply pressure on the company that insured the idiot and the city that was involved in a dangerous chase. They are lucky he didn't hit a kid!
Let us know how it turns out.

$**T That SUCKS!

If they give me at least $13,000 for her i will take it.

Dream on unless you have some sort of stated value policy in place. Your number is about twice what the insurance co will think it's worth.

I am very sorry. Try pushing the felony factor. The driver was under the influence, in a pursuit. I had a very thrashed BMW 2002 in the early 80's that was hit by a drunk girl in the rear quarter panel, ripping open the gas tank filler & igniting the car. I got paid a fortune!

Feel for ya man. Hope everything gets put right.

I'm going to agree that truck is totaled.

Start putting together a file with EVERY receipt you can find that relates to your truck. Original bill of sale, all PM work, tires, bumpers, other mods. Find photos of the installed mods to back-up your claim. Price out the cost of similar tires, bumpers, etc and include those prices. Then start an excel spreadsheet and look for similarly-equipped Cruisers for sale. If you go in to the insurance company with as much as you can substantiating the value of your truck, they will work with you. They hate to pay out, but they also hate to keep a file open for months haggling about a couple of thousand dollars.

Keep in mind they probably won't pay for mods, but you may be able to work something out where you get to keep added-on parts. You would want to get them before the truck goes anywhere though, once it's in their possession it'll be more difficult.

Sorry to hear about this.

When my '94 80 was totaled they offered me 11,000, but that was 2.5 years ago w/ 148000 miles on it, and it was a creampuff.

I would CONVINCE them to total it, and then buy it back. The buyback will be 15-20% of the totaled value. You can then take the remaining 80-85% and either buy a new 80 and transfer the parts or repair this one. I opted to repair mine, but my damage wasn't as extensive as yours. You should be able to part out your truck for more than the buyback price. You would also be able to salvage all your useable mods.

BTW, if you buy it back you retain the original title and it will not have a salvage title.

Good luck however it turns out.

Geez...Sorry this happened to you...I guess it could have been worse. Seems like it held up well considering. A-holes like that make me sick to my stomach.

OUCH!!!!

The LC held up well considering. That car is trashed though.

Follow up on an old post... the 80 survived with an axle transplant from a 93 model. Transplant was an open diff. Been beating on the truck since '09 with the open diff until recently. This summer had a wheel bearing failure on the passenger side so I decided to pull the axle for a rebuild, and locker install. Thanks to the Mud world the axle rebuild and locker fit was super greasy and smooth. Truck is back dominating the local woods on AGs and fully locked. Thanks for all the information here!
