Finally finished my mini truck w/saginaw pump power steering install. It took me longer than expected but was fairly straightforward.

So far the addition of power steering is freaking awesome!! Drives like a different car. I still need to recenter the steering wheel but no major leaks so far from the steering box/hoses. I did have a small leak from the pump but think I've fixed that. If not then I'll exchange it for another rebuilt pump under warranty.

I'm going to try and do a write up on the ONSC website with pics and parts numbers of the install. Nothing new that you can't find in the 40 series FAQ's but would be a nice addition to our site.

Here are a few pics of the finished install. Can't wait to test it on the trails!!

Been working on piecing together a hardtop for my 40 series. Everything is painted and ready for install...I've test fitted, refitted, added parts/screws/weatherstripping, but still not finished.

It is a whole lot harder putting a truck back together than taking it apart...especially if the parts you are putting on were from another truck and you have an aluminum tub :bang::bang::bang::bang:

That thing looks so sick Jon.

Have you had a lot of trouble fitting the hardtop to the Aqualu tub? When I talked to Iron Pig, they said it was really labor intensive, and quoted $5-6k if I remember correctly. I'd still love to have a hardtop for mine so I can drive it in the winter...I think I drove it around today until I had a sunburn.

Thanks Will!!

It is more work than bolting it to a stock tub but 5-6k seems high, unless that includes refinishing a top that needs work and using all new Toyota rubber/seals and hardware...but that still seems high.

I probably have close to the lower side of that for the front hard doors and top in body work, paint, seals, window rubber, new regulators for the windows, doors, new aluminum tailgate, etc, etc.

Hopefully I'll only have to take the cap off 2 more times for fitting before I can install the headliner and then take it a glass shop for them to install the panel glass.

Looks great Jon! Are those my old doors?!?!

You can install the glass yourself, it's really easy. I did the 40 and the 45 by myself. I did do it with the panels off the truck on the 40, but on the truck with the 45. Basically, you get the seal on the glass and ready to go. Tuck thin rope all the way around the gasket, put sealer on the panel where the seal will lay....not too close to the edge of the metal or it will get all over! Set the glass bottom edge into the panel, and then start pulling the rope from the bottom and around the corners while you press in on the glass. spray windex on the inside of the w/s to ease it slipping past the metal edge. You can "slap" the glass with an open hand remarkably hard without cracking anything. That helps to seat the glass evenly in the frame once it's "in". That's it. By far, the hardest glass to do was the early style gasket on my 45's windshield. The later model hardtop gaskets are directional and go in VERY easily. I bet it didn't take more than about 10 minutes per panel on those. Call me if you want better directions.

So it's ready for the Rubicon now? ;)
Looks great man. I love the hard tops on cruisers, but I love driving without them. I really want to make some quick release clamps like the old 45's have so the hard top comes off much faster. Well, that and maybe a full carbon fiber top so you can lift it by yourself. heh....that will never happen though.

Thanks Barry - putting the top together and on the cruiser is harder than I thought (especially if your :princess: is your only second set of hands).

Won't be taking this one to Rubicon, I've got other plans for it. I will be taking it to the STR and then it will most likely be for sale. I love the truck but do not have the space for 3 cruisers and I'm excited about building the 1970 into a trail rig. I'll never sell the 80 so this one drew the short straw.

Well, if you are going to sell it, will you paint that bezel white? hehe I bet you will get an extra grand for doing that! ;)
