I hope my post didn't come across disrespecting the Moab area! I did not intend that at all... The point i was trying to get across is that I was EXTREMELY nervous when i first got there not knowing what to expect. I was sitting at the moab 4x4 outpost with guys with jeeps running 44 inch tires and those guys were telling me that i should reconsider a lot of the trails i was signed up for. They had me even more nervous (I was there getting an exhaust issue welded up). So, i changed one of my trails for a milder trail. After running that trail, my balls got a little more manly and i thought that wasn't too bad. So i switched up the trail ride again and put a harder trail back in place. I was just fine! I was super glad that i went ahead and took a more difficult trail.

Slee was leading the run, the spotting was great and i felt safe. So, what i really mean is don't be intimidated to try something you really want to try.

It did not come across that way to me. I agree with your comments on indexing up the trails, but I think much of that has to do with the number of tourists in relatively stock rigs that come out. A decent driver can take many of the trails ... In the late 90s, I joined some friends in Moab for a week. One guy was running a stock YJ (OK, with a Warn 8274 and a upsized P235 tires :grinpimp:) and I rented a stock TJ. We did a lot of easier trails, but we also did Moab Rim, Golden Spike, Kane Creek and came down Rose Garden Hill with these slacker rigs.

My comment was more about the traction conditions being so good there that one gets spoiled. I see a lot of folks run quite a few trails here in the Southeast with both front and rear lockers activated. Doing that in Moab on a lot of the trails is a quick way to buying new, expensive driveline components!

Moab made me want the T-Case crawler gears. Crawling up and over the sticky climbs is so much fun. When you can't see anything but sky and maybe a hand of a spotter somewhere just over the front of your ARB, it is exciting.

As we all know, around here, that just doesn't happen. It's more of a throttle thing and momentum.

Awesome. It was awesome.

This time I made hells gate look easy. Even though my spotter put me in the same place I slid into the last time, I crawled right through. Ironically an fj60 built like mine in 2012 had to winch from the same exact spot I was stuck that same year. Our spotter wasn't pushing us into the wall enough.

I still have my hopes up that I'll see some ONSC folk at the event next year.
