Plus if you have a vehicle built in the last couple of decades, I40 enables you to set the cruise control, roll up the windows, turn on the A/C, and listen to iTunes.

:flipoff2: that is all I have to say to that.

With the price of gas lately, this will NOT be a cheap trip!

Mike had pretty good mileage at 60-65mph. Da'40 was even getting 15-16mpg at those speeds.

491 has lots of construction right now. Loads of 45mph sections for about half of it. Go 550, take shortcut before bloomfield, crouch mesa to mainstreet into farmington, pinon hills blvd to laplata highway and up to 160 is a viable option.

that's pretty much the route Juane used to lead on the caravans to Moab years back. pretty drive for sure.

Well, that doesn't sound like fun, and could turn the drive into a very long one. We may need to reconsider. Graham - thanks for the heads up. Hwy 491 probably needs the work, and I'm sure it will be nice once they are done.

The next thing you know you're ready for fuel in Grants & again in Gallup & more fuel in Shiprock & a fill-up in Cortez & then again in Monticello & then MOAB! :D

(Note to self: Remove the rack this weekend)

That seems to be my memory from last year driving the Land Yacht. You just left out the 'cracking open the Grey Poupon' part.

I'm driving my Honda up this year (there are Crusier stickers on it)....I'm estimating gas for the whole trip to be about $100.

I'm leaving Friday morning and stopping in Durango for lunch and then heading from Durango on up. I hope to get there in time for the raffle dinner.

Please let me know if you need any last minute items/parts etc. from town here on my way. I'll be happy to bring spares/tools etc.

Good to know Onur - thanks for the offer. No offense, but I hope we don't need anything!

I agree. How about the portal at 7:30?

Thurs - Tip Toe Behind the Rocks
Fri - Hell's Revenge
Sat - Wipe Out Hill

Hopefully we'll have some walking/sight seeing time on Tip-Toe and Wipe Out Hill as I know the little one will be getting fiesty being in that seat all day long. Plan on putting Han behind the wheel for a bit on those two days as well.

That sounds good to me, if that gets us on the road early enough. I saw on the website that tech inspection will be open until 5:00 PM on Wednesday. How about if we plan to meet at the portal at 7:15, but be ready to hit the road at 7:30 - gassed up, etc.

Leaving North portal at 7:30 is OK with me.
-Mike-

OK. Meet at 7:15, leave at 7:30.

Sounds great - we'll plan on that. Leaving the north portal at 7:30 on Wednesday. Anyone else besides Pappy, Beowulf, and us? Lurch?

Yup we'll be there 2:steer:

I booked campsite 133 at Slickrock for Thurs - Sunday. Looking forward to catching up with some faces I haven't seen in a while.

I'm running separate from the official event so if anyone wants to run something....let's do it. I'm bringing the buggy up first and my wife is coming up Friday with the Cruiser. Should have a lot of seats.

Nice G. I might run with ya on Saturday if that's ok....

:)

I have booked 2 nights at the Archway Inn just north of Slickrock for Friday and Saturday night.

If anyone wants to come and take a shower, let me know!

Graham -

Good to hear that you will be up there for Cruise Moab. We will be sure to stop by to check out the new rig and hopefully get out on the trails with you sometime.

I wanted to ask if you would mind expanding your directions above a bit? Any landmarks to watch for? When you say take the shortcut before Bloomfield, is crouch mesa the shortcut? Is crouch mesa the name of a road?

I haven't gone this way very often, and I'd appreciate any further info for us.

Thanks!
