Hi guys, looking to get some advice from those who have used CRC Corrosion Inhibitor on your undercarriage for rust prevention.

I am over halfway done, just removed the wheels, and I’m getting ready to do the wheel wells. I realize this stuff is not a lubricant and hardens to a pretty dry finish, so you’re supposed to avoid spraying it on moving parts. As I get ready to do the wheel wells I plan to put garbage bags around the brakes/hub assemblies and to spray the control arms and anything metal in that area. Is there any other areas I need to worry about and avoid?

Thanks!

The wheel wells are a different type of material and I'm not sure you will benefit from spraying there. But around the inner fender well would be a good spot. You can feel the lip around the fender well. Also, the top of the frame rail in front of the rear tires aswell, the rear brake dust covers need to be hit hard with that stuff.
PS nice work!!

Thanks PDoyle! Do the shock coils tend to rust; would you bother hitting those?

They rust yes. If you can get to them you might as well. Keep in mind you will do this again in a year or two. Sorry.

That looks great! How's it holding up 5 years later? Still using CRC?

I am also going to be using CRC for my under carriage tomorrow. Any tips? Any areas to avoid (i know it's stated to not spray on brakes and exhaust)? Did you remove the metal and plastic skid plates to cover that area?

I used and would recommend a 3M cartridge respirator and goggles and a zip up tyvek suit. I purchased them all on Amazon and they were fairly cheap and worth it to protect your eyes, lungs and clothes! I think it’s held up incredibly well, but my disclaimer is that I haven’t driven the 200 much in the winter; I drive my pickup instead. I don’t think you’ll regret going with this product. It dries to a waxy coating and isn’t oily or messy like fluid film.

And yes, I removed the skid plates to thoroughly get the areas underneath. Good luck; it’s a dirty job but worth it! The nice thing about doing it yourself is that you can do a good job and know it’s done right. I want to say I bought 6 cans but only used 4.

Appreciate the feedback! I am looking forward to this project. I’ll be heading to the Jersey quite a bit this summer so this will help to protect against the salt there.

I’m having trouble finding the tyvek zip up painters suit and goggles but here’s links to the respirator.

I read somewhere that one should be careful with the O2 sensors when spraying the under carriage. Did you avoid them? Assuming you did, where are those in your model (same as mine)?

That’s an interesting question…I honestly cannot remember but I never had any trouble ever since spraying. I remember avoiding spraying the exhaust and catalytic converters in general. Maybe another member can weigh in on that topic. Seems like everything should be pretty watertight and unaffected.
