hey guys. got some current problems. Ive been testing things with my multimeter trying to make sense of it all. just about everything to do with ignition has stoped working. here is a list of things that arent working:

turn signals
diesel marker
temperature reader
battery light
4x4 light
Oil pressure light

things that are working

headlights
hazard lights
starter

I dodnt check the brake lights, don think it really matters anyway.....

Things I've done:

checked all fuses, all fine, replaced about half of them because i had some laying around

disembelled the ignition switch and cleaned it with electric cleaner. i fixed my headlights at least which wouldnt go low beam. it wasnt the problem. i then noted that electricity was flowing in and back out of ignition as the key was turning.

flows getting from the signal switch to the flasher. flows going from the ignition switch to the signal switch as well. 12 vs are going to the ignition switch.

If i cant figure it out tommorow before midday, im taking it to the electromechanic (2 hour drive). but Im sure I can find it myself.

there must be some place all this wiring converges. maybe a relay or something. but where, i dont know. ive followed cables everywhere looking for anything obvious.

any advice would be greatly appreciated. Im going to look as some wiring diagrams and meditate on the flow of current :bang:

I'd guess the ground for the instrument cluster has failed.

it runs, its diesel, but it started life as a 22r. its got the 3l.

ima find that ground, your probably right

edit: oh and its an 86, but 96 motor

Main fusible link at the positive battery terminal or a corroded main feed into the fuse box. You should have full voltage and amperage from the positive terminal to the distribution plate in the undergone main fuse box. Track things back to the dash from there.

Also a possibly unplugged or loose main plug from the engine bay through the firewall. Check for continuity at the kick panel box.

ok, its not the ground, well..... its not a loose ground. volts are getting to all the places they are supposed to. what i have found is that all the components that arent working have continuity in their lines.

also as ive been using the car the batterys slowly been dying, but over night it stays charged.

theres some sort of mass short circuit going on. it appears to be draining the battery as the cars on

i ripped apart all the tape of the lines and couldnt find anything wrong on the drivers side. I followed the wires of the components that wernt working. they all went right to the passenger side.

Pulled the dash. found some melted wires near the door that appear to be connecting. im sure theres more because i pulled the ones i could get to apart, but theres still continuity everywhere. gota rip the fan (that doesnt work).

so yea, 99.99999% sure thats the problem. how its happened im 100% sure I dont know
